tim_evans1
Hey ys. Just picked up my car from a full service. They've written me up a long list of things that need changing. The 2 I'm worried about are the cambelt which is 'red' status and the timing/fan belt I think. They've quoted 303 quid for the cambelt change and about 100 for the other. The cambelt I feel needs dong, I'm sure it's causing a whining sound when I drive to start with on journeys or could this be something else. But 300 quid seems like a lot. Shouldn't I be looking at more like 150?They said both had signs of wear and were starting to crack. The other things were minor like spark plugs, anti freeze and stuff which is fine.
mattarosa
The garage I go, seat one, do cambelts for £260ish, alternator belt change for £45 don't know about any other belts bear in mind that's genuine parts with a two year warranty on them. If you took it to a private garage yes cambelt would be around the £150-£170 mark.
electricracer
if you have the cambelt done they should only charge for parts for the fan belt as you have to take it off anyway to do cambelt, about £10-£15, £300 for a cambelt is steep but you need to know exactly what your paying for ,if its a vw specialist then they should do the water pump and tensioners as well as the cambelt, these do need doing as they can only be done with a cambelt change. if the garage is just doing belt nothing else your being ripped off.
