arosagoesroundcorners
I've just purchased a set of HID's for my arosa, I've been wondering if the ballast will fit in along with the other electrical components with the back cover or do you have scrap the clip on cover? mattarosa
I certainly wouldn't scrap the cover, it seals on there for a reason... To keep all water off the roads out. I believe the usual thing to do is drill a hole the diameter of the cables in the cover. No idea if the ballast would fit, I'm guessing not as it's not exactly roomy in them. Aaron_Joy
I got rid of the back covers cause they had condensation but now they're always 100% bone dry even when raining. However I've made friends with a spider that managed to crawl in the lense...
mattarosa
I still wouldn't all the connections are now exposed to the elements...

Richie7Rich
I drilled a hole in the back of my mk4 headlights for my hid kit
Aaron_Joy
It's not really exposed, it's in an enclosed engine bay
mattarosa
Apart from the hole that goes right through it yeah...
Aaron_Joy
Which hole? I have an engine cover and full coverage underneath, no gaps, unless you think heat from the engine will harm it which isn't the case. Things are out there for a reason yeah but in my case the covers were trapping moisture in and the lenses were constantly condensated, now I've removed them they're fine.. mattarosa
How do you have full coverage underneath? and with it being enclosed i'm assuming you've blocked up the grills on the front so water and dirt cant get in through them, welded up the gaps down the sides of the bonnet and put a bead of silicone around the lights? arosagoesroundcorners
Got them today, used a hole saw and drilled a whole in the back of the cover, the wire harness came complete with a grommet so everything is sealed up good and proper. there was no way you would be able to squeeze the ballast and wiring behind the cover! Hole saw is a must! I used a 23 mm
mattarosa
Didn't think you would, are they all working? the ballast secure? not going to fall off or come loose whilst driving
arosagoesroundcorners
yeah all seems good, ballasts are securely tie wrapped in place, wasn't keen on screwing them to the car to be honest! now just have to wait till it's dark and try them out! arosagoesroundcorners
something bbs style or borbet, has to be 14's though because I can't afford new tyres as well! Saving for my bike! !
Aaron_Joy
There's no gaps that lead water directly to the headlamps.... Feel free to come round and check if you're that worried that water will get to the wires. Now if the front of the headlights were open that'd be a different story, but I haven't had a problem since I removed the covers..
mattarosa
Are you lowered?
mattarosa
Water doesn't always run in the most logical way, but hey maybe you're right, water doesn't effect electrical items in any way, must just be a myth.
