17950/P1542/005442 - Angle Sensor 1 for Throttle Actuator (G187): Implausible Signal

Possible Symptoms

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active

Possible Causes

Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188) faulty

Power Supply for Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188) faulty

Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188)

See Measuring Value Blocks (MVB), usually MVB 062

Power Supply for Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188) faulty

Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Angle Sensors 1/2 for Throttle Actuator (G187/G188) faulty

17978/P1570/005488 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer

Possible Symptoms

Engine starting but stalling immediately

Possible Causes

Key(s) not matched

Instrument Cluster not matched

Engine Control Unit (ECU) not matched

Engine Control Unit (ECU) Power Supply faulty

Possible Solutions

Check for Fault Codes in Immobilizer itself (part of Instrument Cluster in many cars, but separate Immobilizer Control Module in some)

Check Immobilizer Measuring Values (usually in Instrument Cluster OR Immobilizer Control Module)

Match Key(s)/Instrument Cluster/Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Check Engine Control Unit (ECU) Power Supply (Relay)

Special Notes

In case of Engine Starting Issues please make sure that you are really experience an Immobilizer related Problem! Even if the Immobilizer engages, the Engine will still start fine but cut out after 2-3 Seconds. If you are NOT experiencing this behavior (e.g. Engine doesn't start at all) your Problem is very likely NOT Immobilizer related.

May be stored in Combination with 01176 - Key: Signal too Low in Immobilizer Control Module.

If no other immobilizer related fault codes are stored and the immobilizer related meas. blocks are fine except Engine Start not allowed, in rare occasions it helps to try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. (Example)

Low battery voltage (including a faulty battery) may cause Immobilizer system malfunctions and testing should be done only with a known good battery installed.

OK i have inspected throttle body, and recharged fully the battery. Now only getting fault 17950 which is throttle body angle sensor no longer 17978 immobiliser BUT the car still starts and immediately stops. SO is the throttle body issue causing the immobiliser to kick in???

  • 2 weeks later...

HI AGAIN I decided to buy a cheap replacement throttle body to see if the car would start and so illiminate the immobiliser or ecu which was my best guess.

Bought one, fitted it and car started and ran very rough. Cleaned replacement but old throttle body and tried again a few times and it idles at about 1200 rpm but will not really increase revs when using throttle pedal. Now get error codes 17989 and 17950 which suggests need to do a new basic setting of throttle body but dont have the kit Anyone got the kit for this or can advise how to do it. I am in bagshot surrey m3 junction 3 Thanks
