jessperkins17
hello there need a bit of advice! a couple of days ago I had my cambelt and water pump replaced! since having the car back I have noticed a slight whistling noice, hard to explain?! basically when the revs get to about 2-3000 it starts then when I change gear it stops until the revs build up again! I never noticed it before it sounds kind of like when a turbo spools ?! (maybe he fitted a turbo instead) hahaha or am I going mad? what could this be? Spartan535
Welcome to the wonder world of strange Mk1 Arosa noises!Take it back to who did the work, and get them to check - sounds like an over tightened belt - or a bad water pump! jessperkins17
hahah you know!! and okay thank you if I leave it like it is will anything happen?!
Elz8462
Take it back, tell em your concerns and get them to give it a whizz round the block or something and listen for themselves. If you're worried you could always let someone else take a look, a lot of garages if you just pull in and they're free of work will have a check over things quickly for free. Chrisbee
Usually the sign of an over tightened belt butni had mine done recently and get a whine from it. Spoke to the guy who done it and he said it just takes time for the belt to stretch.
Spartan535
There should normally be about an inch in movement if you give a belt a good pull. And if you don't fix it - if loose dead battery or boiled engine - too tight - snapped pully on something - from expensive to VERY expensive, broken alternator or broken water pump! jessperkins17
well he fitted a water pump at the same time so it might not be that unless it was a dodgy one?! its been running fine apart from that just sounds like ive got a turbo! I'll just take it to a garage or back to the bloke! id rather do that then leave it and fork out for something expensive! Thank you for the advice arosa friends haha
Bigplum
Sounds like the belt is too tight , don't leave it , it will stress the water pump and the idlers , then it's fun time when it goes bang
Elz8462
Definitely take it to the same guy who did it. A lot of mechanics i've met are happy to fix anything they've done that's perhaps slightly off, free of charge. Another garage might try charge you more on top.
