hello there need a bit of advice!

a couple of days ago I had my cambelt and water pump replaced! since having the car back I have noticed a slight whistling noice, hard to explain?! basically when the revs get to about 2-3000 it starts then when I change gear it stops until the revs build up again! I never noticed it before it sounds kind of like when a turbo spools ?! (maybe he fitted a turbo instead) hahaha or am I going mad? what could this be? :)

Welcome to the wonder world of strange Mk1 Arosa noises!

Take it back to who did the work, and get them to check - sounds like an over tightened belt - or a bad water pump!

Take it back, tell em your concerns and get them to give it a whizz round the block or something and listen for themselves. If you're worried you could always let someone else take a look, a lot of garages if you just pull in and they're free of work will have a check over things quickly for free.

There should normally be about an inch in movement if you give a belt a good pull. And if you don't fix it - if loose dead battery or boiled engine - too tight - snapped pully on something - from expensive to VERY expensive, broken alternator or broken water pump!

well he fitted a water pump at the same time so it might not be that unless it was a dodgy one?! its been running fine apart from that just sounds like ive got a turbo! I'll just take it to a garage or back to the bloke! id rather do that then leave it and fork out for something expensive! Thank you for the advice arosa friends haha :)
