Front wipers stopped working

Recommended Posts

Not necessarily the motor failing, but the linkage fails. Remove both wipers and see if you can hook the linkage back together. If you can, it will probably work for a few days then unhook again. Go on eBay type VW wiper repair clip and use a clip. Alternatively, buy a new linkage, £50 roughly.

By the way, I suggest removing the fuse because I found that the motors kept trying to work and it blew an engine fuse which meant I couldn't start the car, had to fit a new fuse in the compartment above the battery.

Thanks for the info just had a look there before the light has gone these dark night are no good.

Here are my symptoms

Ignition on or engine running

Activate wipers on stalk

Nothing happens no movement clicking strange noises or anything it's as if the system is totally dead.

As mentioned fuses checked and are not blown

Linkages checked and look to be all connected

Is it possible to manually test the motor after removal directly from the car battery using some wire etc?

Will strip it all down tomorrow in the daylight and have a good look.

Could it be the relay? And are theses expensive?

Thanks in advance for any help

Phil

Update

Stripped the plastics and trim away from the windscreen and scuttle panel.

Removed wiper motor and tested using a 12v feed directly from the battery.

Wiper motor working fine on low speed and high speed.

Used multi meter to test multi plug for the wiper motor could not get a reading.

Fuses checked all fine

Removed the relay but am unsure of how to test this any ideas it's a 6 pin siemens brand?

Starting to think it may be the stalk. Is this an easy job? Maybe a trip to vw next week at this rate.

Any help much appriciated

Phil
