spy
In looking through the classifieds, I have noticed that there are a fair few cars advertised with a replacement or refurb gearbox. Most of the cars seem to be on around 100k miles and spread across both 5 speed and 6 speed boxes.I would have thought that a VW gearbox would last more than 100k miles. Is this a common issue and one I should budget for if the car is still on its original gearbox ? Defcon5
For what model? The GTI boxes are fine, the other petrol ones are terrible, my Sport box went at 17000 miles!
lupogtiboy
My GTI is on 152k and is a bit noisy but changes gear just fine. I think a lot is how the car is treated. The 085 gearboxes in non-gti lupos are a known weakness on all cars that use them!
Defcon5
I sold my GTI on just under 100k, and the engine and gearbox were perfect, just as they were when I bought it. As said, if you look after it it will be fine
spy
Yes, I am referring to GTIs currently for sale. About 10-20% say they have had a replacement or refurb gearbox
