WS6
Smell is bad when I first start the car and when I come to a stop in traffic, is it my cat? If so, any idea where and how much I can get a new one? Thanks

Dblock
I'd check with a gauge first. Most likely your cat or something plastic melted on your exhaust

Skezza
I was always told rotten egg smell was the 10 out of 10 sign of a catalytic converter gone pukey.
Pete91
I think you may have found rich's sandwich
WS6
We had egg sandwiches but the smell was still there after lunch!, I think it must be cat, can't smell it at exhaust but can in the car. Perfect timing with mot next month. Anyone any idea of cost/availability?
Defcon5
I had this in my GTI for a few weeks, went away of its own accord, never had any MOT emissions problems
WS6
Thanks all - defcon5, did you have any problems driving (apart from smell)? I have heard loss of power can occur but I have not noticed anything
Defcon5
Nothing at all, just the smell
Dblock
Some people say it can come from dodgy fuel that has sulphur in it. Don't know how true that is.
Vwlup0
Mine does it(: its the cat. then again it's always fun to blame it on the mrs!
Nicki
I had an eggy smell from my loop - wasn't cat related though, temp sensor that needed replacing. Eggy smell was only on cold starts and disappeared after a minute or so, and was definitely coming from the front of the car, not from the exhaust... danoid
Give it some beans on the motorway for a while, if it doesn't cure it, then atleast you have egg and beans to scoff.
Karl_Mac_
How old is the water in your washer bottle? Can get mould growth which sometimes causes a dodgy smell.
danoid
Our Lupo PROPER stinks when using the woot woot (windscreen washer) smells more like decomposing babies than egg though
