James827
160hp on those front brakes inst the best idea. they are from the stone ages! and they weren't the best then! also i dont see the internals of that engine lasting long, what PSI boost is it running? Anthony Gaulter
Not had her mapped yet but once I have lowed the compretion ratio want to run 1bar about 15psi but at the moment running about 5psi lol
Rich
The best pads are oem ones. The best discs are oem ones. You have fallen foul of the brembo/mintex propaganda.
Anthony Gaulter
Well at the end off the day it don't matter what they are as long as they stop.
James827
makes me sound like an Arse, But its the difference between stopping where you plan too, and stopping in that persons front garden
treblet
Not had her mapped yet but once I have lowed the compretion ratio want to run 1bar about 15psi but at the moment running about 5psi lolNice mixed units of measurement there!Bar or Psi... not both
Anthony Gaulter
Put it in both as 1bar is about 15psi make it simple for people
JoeA
Put it in both as 1bar is about 15psi make it simple for peopleIn fairness, i think many people on here were struggling to decipher your posts, but not because of the complexity of your language and terminology. ryanlupot
the most boost you will get on those standard internals is 8psi at the very most mate. 1 bar on standard internals will get you around ten miles before your picking pieces of your pistons out of your turbo. meltdown. and those brakes are not good for 160 bhp.
CasperGTI
Ill reiterate for you, been there and done this with the 1.6 engine. You wont even make it on to the road with an standard internal set with 1 Bar boost. It will blow up on the rollers, it will take an edge off the standard piston in no time and wipe out the rest of the engine. With a CR of 8.5:1 and 15psi of boost you will be looking at on boost CR of about 17:1 which is too high for standard pistons. On forged you will be ok but you will need EGT monitoring to get the correct advance to aviod melting anything.I saw this happen on a gti engine with 7psi and 9:1 CR. French guy on here tried it with a supercharger conversion. Didnt last very long before it gave up.Also, what angle is the turbo sitting at? Will that not cause oil starvation issues to the front bearing?
Anthony Gaulter
Ow well you have give me something to think about there, and the oil is not a problem at the start I had to much going in and it was a mess squirting oil out of any where it could get out of the turbo but reduced the size of my oil feed pip and there is a good flow now
Anthony Gaulter
Ow and if you guys know any where that will have or make some forged internals CHEEP ish let me know
Anthony Gaulter
I spoke to people about the CR and I got told 9:1 would be good and to get this I would need a 1.6mm gasket? But why would I be better running 8.5:1 with a 2.5mm gasket?
