reeceliamallsop
Hi guysWas wondering if all engine swaps had to pass an emission test... i ask this because ive toyed with the idea of a beetle engine whichis of course very poor on emissions. Would it have to pass an emissions test?Don't start questioning my reasons im trying to break free from the cookie cutter mods everyone seems to do. Defcon5
Which beetle engine? As long as you register it as the new engine size it should be fine I think
scotty_82
We never had problems on emissions on our tdi?And surely the emissions of the car will alter as it will reflect the engine on the V5?

Koop
Is that the same principle or a Mk4 shell on a Beetle chassis?

VW Darren
Emissions are tested for the car, not the engine. So a newer engine in an older car -no problem. I had a 20v in a mk1 golf so it didn't even need to run the CAT. An older engine in a newer car could be a problem with emissions -does your Lupo have a CAT? Your old air cooled engine will struggle to meet its emissions level. The white mk3 pictured above uses a beetle chassis so is still a Beetle with a Golf shell ontop.
