PhilipM
Hi, I just bought a 1.4 Lupo today and was driving it home quite the thing and the oil warning light flashed on, so I stopped the car, switched everything off, got out and checked the oil and there was plenty in it. So I continued driving, and it flashed on again, so I repeated and it was fine, so I continued driving again, but not going above 2k revs this time, and it was perfectly fine, the car doesn't make any strange sounds while driving, has anyone head of this before? Should I be worried?
tiny_landy
Has it been serviced recently? Mine did that not that long ago and I sent it to vw to have half service and they sort it out. But I guess anywhere could service it for you
Defcon5
Could be the oil pressure sensor thats giving false readings. VAGCOM it and replace the sensor if appropriate
grazo22
Were you going round a corner? Mine occasionally comes on when I'm tearing round a corner. It's a pressure light so would indicate there is a poor feed. If the oil is 100% correct I would guess oil pick up or the switch its self. PhilipM
Thanks for the advice guys and gals, I'm hoping that it was just a fluke with the electrics, but I'm getting it checked out tomorrow, so we'll wait and see.
renandstimpey
I'm suffering a similar problem with my GTi this last week, swapped for a new sensor and it hasn't cured the problem, mine also starts to flash after the water has hit normal operating temperature, 5-10 mins of driving, and seems to be if I use over 3k revs....? Defcon5
^ Oh dear.Did you use a VW sensor?Any odd noises or anything? What grade oil is in it?
renandstimpey
Yep, vw part. Oil level is just below the high mark on the stick, no noises, no running problems, no overheating, no nothing other than a blinking blinking light! Defcon5
What does VAGCOM say?Could be a wiring fault rather than the sensor
renandstimpey
Haven't had it plugged in, haven't got it and don't know anyone who does! I have ordered one of those leads off ebay to see what that throws up? Don't know how useful they are for the 'home' mechanic...

renandstimpey
My car needs a new engine, the big end bearings are gubbed, raging doesn't describe how I feelThat's really bad news! If mine is anything like that then it's getting scrapped, it's only done about 2 1/2k miles on a top end rebuild/new pistons/fresh belts and tensioners! PhilipM
Private sale I assume? Is the light on all the time or just every now and again? Any knocking noises? When we bought the car from a used car dealer there were no funny noises and the light came on twice on the way home, so we decided to be better safe than sorry and booked it in at our local VW specialist, he went over the car with a fine toothed comb and found that the big end bearing were ruined, that the engine would last like another week before it wouldn't work at all.
