Tom_C
Okay so I've been seeing around that steelies are popular for cars these days. Now Is that a case of just removing plastic trim alloys or what's ever on the wheel and just re painting the steels that they sit on??If so what's the way to go around it? Best way, cheaper way or a link to a previous topic if ones around. Ta.
scotty_82
Ive found the best way is a two man job, mask off the tyre then get a mate at the ready with the spray can.Start the car then gently roll forward while your mate sprays, this will help give a smoother more even coat.Do this for all four wheels, once with primer, then twice with top coat and maybe once again with a lacquer if needed.

matt123roll
Scott has the right idea, saves you painting your discs and calipers at a later date! Could even do part of your wing

If the steels look crappy then rub them down and primer them then just fire on a few coats of paint. Stick playing cards or something similair around the wheel to avoid painting the tyres. In all honesty though steels look gash even if painted.
Tom_C
yea, gunna try it out when get back in uk, but be just until afford some nice rims to replace them, been looking around at a few goodens already
rig_pig
If you're thinking steels then maybe consider those from other VW's rather than your original 13's. 15" G60's or the 14" Mk2 GTI 'mini' G60's look great with a coat of paint and some lows. Tom_C
yea been noticing alot round forums of these G60's look pretty tidy aswell, might look at investing into a set of those if can get them at a reasonable price, what size looks best 14 or 15's on lupos
scotty_82
G60's only come in one size, the rest are from golfs and passats where people call them "baby g60's" or something along those lines to bump the price up a bit
