High Mileage

Recommended Posts

Hi new here, looking to buy a GTI

It's got 156k miles on it, Y reg, is that gunna die soon?

FSH up to and around 130k and then started again at 147k ish

two timing belts or chains, alternator belt/chain is being replaced too

Before i think about buying it, is it gunna die on me as soon as i drive it?

I drove it down the road and felt smooth and steady, just like a brand new car!

Maybe it's because i've gone from a corsa, to this?

Any help would be appreciated :)

has it had a clutch? like at all during its life? 150k on a factory clutch is alot unless there motorway miles. and if it is a factory clutch leave some money aside just in case

and is everything working on it as it should? (Lights, brakes feel + sound ok? no warning lamps etc?)

and what type is it? 5 speed or 6 speed?

What other history is with it, or is that it?

ive been told most clutch plates are designed to last around 100k, my mates just picked up a polo GTI with 120k and the clutch was slipping. seems like the right time ish.

Van clutches are different, they don't have the springs in the friction plate and the Clutch plate is not the diaphram type like you find on cars.

well, i was told Commercial vehicles were like this anyway :)
