Wee Sprocket
Could it be 'pinking'?
Silver!
Does it speed up as the car gets faster or is constant? Does it change speed as you go through the gears?
Aiyame
No it doesn't do it while revving in neutral and it doesn't speed up while going through gears all I can give you is that it only happens when I hit about 1000rpm and it stops when u get to a steady speed
Silver!
Does it happpen under real gentle acceleration? Is it more pronouncedt under hard acceleration in a "too high gear"?

Silver!
And when driving like a granny? Keep it real smooth and light on the throttle.Do you get any run after the engine is switched on? Does it smell of fuel?
Aiyame
Nope no fuel smell And it's fine when driving like a granny lol
Silver!
Sounds like it could be "pinking" as mentioned above. Possible cause timing out, though I'm not sure about advancing\retarding with no distributor.Have you had the cam belt changed recently?
Aiyame
I've not had a cam belt fitted in the time I've had it
Silver!
...and this has just started? How long have you had it, has it ever had a cambelt change?Should be done @ 40k or 4 years. If it hasn't been done it could be the belt stretched maybe, giving a degree off tdc. or even the tensioner failing.Without hearing it it's hard to really say, but you m aybe need to find someone local to listen or take it to a VW specialist.Where are you located, someone on here may meet up to give you an opinion. Silver!
Cambelt tensioner? Leaving slack in the belt making the timing out? Need to get it checked properly as a belt failure is fatal.
