sam bignell
Thought I'd spark up a thread as it's been playing on my mind over past couple of weeks and there doesn't seem to be much going on in this section anyway! My R32 was written off in April last year and I've been holding out until everything was all sorted insurance wise and my claim for my injuries had been settled. Beginning of December everything was sorted so I’m now on the lookout for something exciting on the weekend / summer. At this point in time I have £15,500 which comes out of a bond the end of January and I have a mk1 MX5 sat wrapped up in the garage which I'd part with for something special (budget price of £2000 because it's 2 owners, no rust and only 30,000 miles - it'll sell all day long over 2k).So for £17,500 what options would you consider that meets the following:1. Convertible2. Petrol3. Something you don't see daily! 4. Or a future classicCars I've been thinking of lately are Lotus mk2 Exige (although I kind of want another V6 or V8), Maserati Sypder mk2, Porsche 993 convertible.I have a soft spot for a collectors condition mk2 Clio V6 but I doubt anything special will come up for a while. I'd also like a Beetle V6 but again nothing will come up this year let alone in the coming months.Any other suggestions? The Lupo Gti will be used as my daily, although i don't do that many miles anyway.Sam Edited February 18, 2012 by sam bignell

bobbo
I thought that'd be the case, as other than the reliability issues, they fit your criteria perfectly! How about a sensible TVR then? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3518601.htmCoupe yes, but nicer and rarer than the roadster and if the z3m coupe is anything to go by, thats going the right way to be a future classic! Huw Pugh
993 for me. Such a pretty car and holds it's value well. Something a bit newer and I'd be looking at a 996 4S.

treblet
The ultimate weekend car has got to be a Caterham, you'd need a garage to keep it in though as it would fill up under heavy rain!

Lupoboz
How about a Lotus Exige in bright orange, they go like stink and you won't be able to lose it in the car park, lol. That's if a good second hane one can be found for that sort of money. Even the smaller engined Elise still handles like a roller skate!Or save the money for a rainy day and enjoy the MX5, as Top Gear are always raving about them. l hope you really enjoy whatever you set your sights on. angelo77
I miss my locost, same shape as a cateram but a lot cheaper, when I get another garage I will have one in a heartbeat, cheep insurance, peanuts to run, not flash but loads of fun at sensible speeds. If you have the budget and some mechanical knowhow, any of the t series tvrs are massive performance for the money, you will need £800 to £1500 per year for maintance, i ran a Griffith for 3 years with my old man, only problems we had was the odd electrical fault and the seals on the targa pannel for the roof. sam bignell
Next weekend i'll be looking at two cars Clio V6 in liquid yellow (only 14 k miles) and Beetle RSi.What are peoples thoughts on the Beetle? I'm torn between the two
LoopEd
I'm a fan of the Rsi, I think that may be because it's rare....have heard they're not all that fast.
sam bignell
Tad bit slower than the MK4 R32 but it's mainly about the sound and interior. What are the common problems with Beetles?
