IlsonDanni
Seems to be all going wrong lately:Had the MOT a few weeks ago and it scraped through on emissions.Checked the oil last week, and since September it had used absolutely all of it!Decided to look in the air filter for "mayo" and there was some.Just a bit confused, as there's no mayo on the oil filler cap, in the air filter it was only on the right hand side, and obviously there was a bit of it in the breather pipe on the air-box.Looked around what other people have done and they seem to be conflicting, don't think it's the HG because it drives fine.http://fav.me/d4j2u7vhttp://fav.me/d4j2uekhttp://fav.me/d4j2ud6
Defcon5
Its using all the oil because its seeping past either your piston rings or valve stem seals, which isnt really connected to the mayo. The mayo there isnt a great cause for concern, its just the oil from the PCV system mixing with condensation formed in the airbox from the incoming cold air. When was the oil last changed? What kind of journeys do you normally do?
GMInsite
Could be a leak from your sump as this happened to me
Pete
Yeah just to agree with defcon, you'll find most oils tend to emulsify, but I'd check out your breather pipes also, make sure you have decent air flow, and if the oil is passing the rings and getting burnt up and chucked out the exhaust then that'd explain the close call with the emissions. Defcon5
If your PCV was blocked, it could increase pressure in the crankcase which is forcing oil past your piston rings. May be worth clearing all the pipework through.Im told the PCV pipework has a little heater in it to keep the oil as a vapour, but I have never seen one myself (not that I have looked mind!) IlsonDanni
Hmmm, all seems clear now, average journey time's about 40 minutes with 30, 40 & 60 roads!Got a new air filter coming tomorrow, and will probably clear out the breather pipe.Does anyone know if it can be taken off or is it a case of doing the best I can?Slightly puzzled because it gets serviced every year and i only do ~6K a year too. Thanks guys! Defcon5
If what can be taken off? The PCV?If so no, but you can install a catch tank to collect the oil as it travels through, so your airbox and throttle body stay clean
IlsonDanni
Probably end up ordering a catch tank then. Blasted out all of my airbox and some new filters can't hurt. Blast down the motorway can't hurt too! Thanks man!
jamiea7x
yep catchtank is next on the list for me as my kn panel filter is soaked through with oil Edited December 16, 2011 by jamiea7x
IlsonDanni
In the process of ordering a catch tank and just want to check it's suitable with the standard intake?Do I only need to attach the PCV pipe (Input) or should I also attach it to the air box? (Output)
