Chrisbee
not to sure on the gearbox, although the 1L ratios might be a tad short. loom will need upgrading as will the brakes, rear discs and abs.
old skool
so its quite a big job then, i was hoping it would be engine out wiring looms out, new loom in and then new engine in
Chrisbee
its alot of work but alot of it is plug and play due to the fact its all designed for the same chassis,Don't forget your doubling the power so you've got to be able to handle/stop that power, which is why all the other bits need upgrading also.. Chrisbee
alos make sure you get the right type of engine for your model of car, if you have an early lupo then you'll want an early engine etc as its supposed to be a real pain fitting the later spec ones in an older model. shaunsprules
You will need the 1.4 gearbox aswell, as the 1.0L box isnt designed for the power of a 1.4 engine being put throught it.Best bet would be getting a downer car and swapping everythg... Orr buy a 1.
Deadmetal
Engine conversions/upgrades are NEVER easy.A 1.0 to 1.4 will be one a big job, pretty much everything running gear and electronics will need to be swapped.Just buy a 1.4 Lupo. Chrisbee
If your thinking of supercharging, why not look at the polo gti lump? much more power out the box and i think you can get a charger kit for them.
old skool
gti 8V only 75bhp thats y i was think of the 100 bhp 1.4 ill have to wait and see need to get some other bit finished first
Chrisbee
polo gti is a 16v. comes with something like 125bhp standard
jabbles21
Can be done but as a rule of thumb, from a financial point of view you should never really put an engine in a car that was available out of the factory - it just wont work out cheaper. But if you're doing it for a mechanical excercise and you've got the £££ then ignore me Good luck!
old skool
the thing is i everything i have had done to car i cant afford to sell it and do it again but with a car with a bigger engine. so thats y i wanted to do a engine swap.polo gti is a 16v. comes with something like 125bhp standardthing is thought the 8v engine i want have to fart around witht the mount for the gearbox and engine but with the 16v i have to. iv been reading in a few place that people have got 8v to nearly 175 bhp but that with a lot of money and tbf anything is better then a 1.
