Head wrecking Problem

Recommended Posts

this has my head turned inside out!!

I have a full range 500 watt speaker in the boot of my car, I was using a 500 watt amp to run it (which was working great). All of a sudden a couple of weeks ago it stopped working.

I though it was the amp that had blew but the power light was still glowing. i tried a different speaker but still no output.

since then i have,

Tried 3 different amps, (500watt & 1000watt) yes on mono!

Tried 2 different speakers, (which are working with non car amps),

Tried different phono cables,

Tried outputting from sources other than the car cd player,

Tried wiring the speaker directly to the amp without using a cable to connect both,

Checked fuses on the amps.

The other car speakers are working fine running straight from the cd player without the amp.

I can't think of another solution other than admitting defeat :/

can anyone think of any ideas??

thanks in advance!

If there would not be on-line sale of generics I would have to waste so much money on expensive drugs. Quality is good and it works the way as described. I want to thank guys who started all this. I will place my fourth order soon to acquire more Female Viagra.

Leave now and never come back...

sounds very much like the remote line is faulty.......... ive seen it before when there is no load on the amp it turns it on but when you power the pre outs (play music) the line goes down to 8V and the amp doesnt come on though you may get the amp light on. powering from other sourses wont power on the amp unless you have jumpered the power to the amp and the remote on. give that a try and report back

Interesting! I am running a black/red from my cigarette lighter and my blue wire from the back of the cd player to act as a remote.

just to confirm, i am checking the blue wire and possibly replacing it?

the sound system shouldnt be tapping into the ciggy lighter for a start.....

Phono leads ( the red and black phono leads ) from headunit to amp -

Power lead ( the red one ) from the + term of the battery to a fuse holder under the bonnet, then straight to the + term on the Amp

Neg lead ( black ) from the Amp to an earth point which has had paint sanded back from it

Remote lead ( the thin blue lead) directly from the remove lead on the headunit to the amp.

Edited by one litre wonder ;)

I had a cig connector that run from the lighter and into red/black. At first i was only wiring all up for something to do and not long term but now i have changed my mind.

the earth wire, as you say should run to a stripped part of metal. Is there any recommendations where to connect this? and how? would it be with tape or a solder of some sort?

thanks for this by the way!

Get rid of that cigarette adaptor thing asap, you risk damaging something powering it off of there.

Neither. It should have a ring connector crimped onto one end and be bolted to a suitable part of the car.

Right thats good to know.

What would be the best thing to bolt it too? And is there any recomended passages to run wiring from under the bonnet and into the car?

any metal part of the structural body, whether it be seatbelt mounts (not the best but easy to get to) strip ALL paint off in a 1" circle then bolt it down. run a proper piece of heavy duty amplifier wire from the battery via front and rear fuses if you want to be extra cautious but at least the front, take the most direct route in a straight line not over engines ect under the carpet ie remove all seats pass it through grommets not bare metal holes and immediately remove the wiring from the lighter socket unless you want a fire!!!!!!!!!

mate if you honestly tried to run a sound system from your ciggy lighter you prob gubbed your ciggy lighter.... the amount of current you can draw on a aftermarket is quite high...

if your not sure how to earth it properly mate i would seriously think twice about running cabling as a poor earth could lead to a car fire or if you end up poorly running a possitive lead and it chaffed and catches fire.
