Rich
Do you mean one cylinder is down on compression ?

Ashh
Isn't a cylinder part of the engine block? as in you can't just buy a new one?
carli259
well im not 100% sure they are getting an engineer out to check it out, they only said cylinder damage caused by the spark plugs and thats all they said.they are going to ring me with a quote on tuesday. Bickerton
Spark plug dropped through? Terribly rare event to randomly happen , why would a garage need an engineer out?
Rich
So piston damage probably leading to scoring of the bores?I'd offer some advice but it's far too vague therefore speculating is all we can do.

carli259
my exhaust emissions warning light came on, and the car lost its power and then later on it sounded like something dropped, then there was a knocking sound, it sounds louder and lower than before. Rich
Worst case scenario, new engine.Best case scenario, errrm, women and cars and strange noises, could be anything.

Rich
Hard to come by, have to be Lupo specific but if you're patient, they do rock up.

Rich
no, the gearboxes don't match up.I could go into the intricate details but can we leave it at a simple 'no'?
carli259
I had a call from the garage and they said I need a replacement cylinder head, new spark plug and lead for £190.They have to do that before they can look into why it lost it's power? Rich
Getting a spare cylinder head isn't the end of the world.Henaz on here bought my old Polo GTI engine, I gave him a spare head with it, may be worth a PM ?
CasperGTI
Theres one for sale in the parts for sale section at the moment for £100.Given a good dip with new guides and stem seals and it will be as good as new.
chris27
I had a call from the garage and they said I need a replacement cylinder head, new spark plug and lead for £190.They have to do that before they can look into why it lost it's power? If there is other possible problems regarding a specific cylinder (as mentioned in your first post) would it no be more cost effective to find everything that needs to be done first? Why would they need to put a new cylinder head on first? If the bottom end is knackered you have then wasted the labour costs in fitting the new cylinder head, and if you end up getting a used engine, odds are it will have the cylinder head on it, leaving you with a spare?
