i went to gamefest today, at the NEC birmingham. there was a big forza stand there so i had to have a go!

i was completely unaware they were releasing this wireless steering wheel?! it looks like it works off an accellerometer as ther was no kinect sensor to be seen.

anyway i had a go, and was impressed! it really did feel good! you get more travel in the triggers on the back, for more precise acceleration, the same with braking.

Agreed!!

The quality is increadiable

A do a bit of CAD on a specialist automotive softwear called Alias and I know how long it takes.

Attention to detail on that Enzo is 1st class

I do 3DS Max too.... and yeah, insane detail.

Pretty much just get all the data and figures straight from the company so next to no modelling required. That is how it is done for CGI adverts etc anyway, but for gaming, it does have to be toned a bit. Forza 3 had 1,000,000 Polys per car, which was (believe it or not) double Gran Turismo 5.

Why does GT5 graphics look far better then? (Im not a technical geek)

Aye but when I was making cars for Midtown Madness 2 (highest rated user made car for years lol) and Racer it is a LOT harder to make a realistic car with 3000 triangles ;-)

The most time consuming bit was making LOD (Level of detail) models too, but now you can do it all in software. You can even start doing the low poly modelling but with mesh smooth on so you automatically get your high res mesh, then add in texture baking and normals baking. It is amazing how fast this stuff has come on.

All to do with the lighting of the game engine, and the colour palette of the console. The 360 cannot show off the same realistic colours as the PS3, something retarded, remember reading years back, so a lot of the colours for the cars will be (kinda) cartoony, on the 360.

Yeah that is true, awesome to get another 3D modeller on here! Loved MM2, I remember I playing that to death as a kiddywink.

When I make my models I never think about the texture baking and normals, just get carried away with the modelling, and forget the render times will be sufficiently quicker if I had baked the higher poly mesh onto the lower one, but my models are just stills mainly. Very hi-poly stills ha.

You still modelling at all? Got any of your work to show, be awesome to see it.
