Lupo Sunroof

hi all, my partner and i are proud owners of a sweet yellow lupo. However today we were quoted a little over £2000 to have it repaired. It is having a new pedal box, clutch, i dont get this but brakes most major parts front and back, apparently £300 for frt and the same again for back, yet just had them done and told was just lots of dust causing rubbing noises. Also new window screen wiper motors. the car is currently with VW and they have dropped the price to £1650. Initially we took it in as the sunroof is leaking due to perished seal on glass. Not aware of any other problems apart from wipers and sunroof this is a bit of a shock. After the bad news we were told that the sunroof cannot be repaired by them as it is aftermarket, i dont get this either, it has had a sun roof all its life. Do vw use another company to fit all thier sun roofs !!! Anyhow after the repairs we are still left with a leaky roof, can anyone recommend a repair centre for getting the sunroof seen to please, also i know VW will charge a premium price but does £1650 for a pedal box, clutch, brakes back and front and front wiper motors sound way too over priced ???

your a card, you are. hope you have the same luck with your lupo. We have been usiny 'indy' garage. Been stringing us along telling us its all ok, lucky i did take it to vw. i would rather pay 1 large amount than spend twice that over a period of time keep getting minor repairs on the diffrent issues. was told only clutch adjustments needed, p box ok, obviously not though. just dust clogged brake, also a fib. Sorry fella but your comment is far from helpful, i need a recomended sunroof repair centre by a genuine lupo enthuiast. im asking because i dont want to deal with any more dodgy so called indy garages and after the other repairs prefably not vw, although thier honesty is second to none. PLEASE GENUINE REPLIES WELCOME ONLY FOR SUNROOF ISSUE.

you say 300 quid for the brakes? just for the front that is shocking, have a go at doing them yourself it will cost about 50 pounds its 2 bolts on the caliper undo them and your away, half hour each side (the people on the forum can easily step by step it all and i bet most of them can get you the parts like pedal box and anything you want as there are plenty being broken up at the moment on here the price new is unreasonable!

sadly today i went to vw to get 8 bolts and it come to £22 but you cant not get the right gear for suspension and brakes

erm, about the sunroof if it was a optional extra when the lupo was bought new then it should be fixed by them but if it wasnt fitted by them they have no obligation to fix it.... they mess with it .... it gets worse .... owner complains sues and then its one big circle. well thats what the vw guy told me today about fitting air con into mine

Best bet is to find a VW specialist in your area. If you say where you are located in your profile, you should get people offering recommendations for a VW specialist, but yes at a VW dealer you will pay a premium. They have the VW skills and are allowed to use the VW stamp, but the cost should be cheaper.

As a note, the [pedal box has been fixed foc by many VW dealers, shame you never knew about this before your first visit. You could try and claim this back, possibly worth a letter to VW UK if the dealer is stubborn.

Many dealers will use an after market sunroof installer, either as requested by a purchaser or as an inticement to possibly shift forecourt stock.

If you can find the manufacturer of the sunroof, Google will assist in finding a supplier\repair centre.

All the best.

As for the brakes, too late now, but I got a full set of Mintex disks and pads for the GTI from eBay for £118 (now about £129) and my local VW specialist fitted them (with brake fluid flush) at service for me. I think the service and fitting came to less than £200.

Worthwhhile shopping around.

My local VW specialist is a VW master Tech and used to be workshop foreman at our local dealer.
