Good job with the wheels pal and the cars looking clean.

Could I suggest and new polo aerial and one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aero-Rear-Wiper-Arm-Blade-VW-Lupo-Seat-Arosa-/221037794354?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ALupo&hash=item3376e11432

Joe.

Cheers, like that wiper actually, bit pricy for what it is tho... Always been quite fond of the aerial for some reason and I feel it works - but will be spraying it to exactly match the wheels when the centrecaps are finished.

Yes the wheels look awesome! :D

It's like Motorsport type theme they look like, looks like a little fast road car with the grippy tyres

Exactly what i've been going for :D will be even better when I can afford the 185 50 tyres... Need the arches rolled asap then I can start to hammer it again :P

Update: Got the centrecaps finished and painted up. Also managed to roll the arches - few bits of cracked paint, but expected it and its not noticeable so going to get it sorted along with the bonnet and roof when I get back from Switzerland.

Been progressively winding it down till it all suited, happy with how it sits now, but even with arches rolled on the rear, dont think I can pull off 5mm spacers...

Good news being that I can still hammer it, and although the rear doesnt slide as much now, it now goes round corners even faster than the already insane speeds it could already achieve :P

185/50/14's coming when I get back too for some low-profile goodness :D

Really like those wheels! Please pipe the air filter on properly, you're better than that!

Cheers :) - and no bout the air filter lol, hardly ever open the bonnet anyway and if u ask anyone who has heard it, they will confirm that it sounds too good to change. I did try and enclosed BMC and it sounded completely differrent and lost all the nice notes.

It's not about the filter itself :) just would be better if it wasn't plonked on the tb IMO.

It wouldnt reverbrate the same, will see if I can get a friend to record a video for the sound, never heard another lupo like it.

Think of heat soak!

Its still fairly well ventilated there and the cone never feels hot when I pop the hood after driving for a bit, the exhaust manifold is on the other side of the engine. And I would happily sacrifice a bhp or 2 for the throttle response improvement and acoustics.

Part one of car service today.

Brembo disks and pads for the front arrived today!

Started work and got the pads out fine only to find that the bolts holding the carrier in place (which needs removing to get the disks off) were stuck solid and I broke the mechanism in my ratchet trying to undo them. And with no ramp I can't get an angle to get my breakers bar on them, so going into next door garage in the morn to get them done, annoying to have to pay for such a trivial task, but needs must...

On the bright side tho, found the cause of my long-term squeak - the inside pad on the left had worn strangely with a weird double ridge on it, but after over 25k driving the car hard, and no idea how long the pads had been on for before that, they've done pretty well.

Next is going to be a full oil change with oil filter and fuel filter changed and maybe new sparks, although existing ones are relatively recent... But that will wait till the end of the month when I can get it back into parents garage.

cold air reduces MPG anyway!

Disks and Pads on now, turns out the front brakes were also both sticking slightly maybe accounting in part for my abismal mpg. Both lower sliders on the calipers had to be unsiezed and lubricated, also maybe why my ABS was cutting in a little early. And the bolts I couldnt undo with my little 6" ratchet - required a 3ft breakers bar and a lot of effort to undo.

Just driven round Dartmoor for a bit to wear the pads in, gonna take it out later and test properly hard braking to see how it copes...

Just driven round Dartmoor for a bit to wear the pads in.

you know your apparently suppose to break them in for like 50 odd miles before you do any hard breaking, not just 15mins round town

Not my first ever change of pads ;) , they are now well bedded in with over 150 miles put on just this afternoon - the number of horses and sheep and corners in the road require a lot of breaking.

My fuel economy has improved slightly and the car notably quicker now my brakes arent sticking!

Cant believe I thought the brakes were good before, now they just stop it dead! Reccommend the brembo pads and disks for ppol looking to change theirs. The biting point for the brakes are higher and length of bite has reduced making the brakes much sharper and more responsive.

That's me told! :P

Sorry lol, not meaning to be rude :P

Did one hard brake test to check the ABS and it seems to cut in later than before which is good, but I still think it comes in too early, I would rather just not have ABS, maybe I can just take a fuse out or something, may have a go and see if I prefer being my own ABS system...

Current update:

I'm in Switzerland for work and the car isnt.

Car is being driven by my younger brother who only recently passed his test who has little/no interest in cars...

I raised the suspension a good 2.5 inches all round so he wouldnt forget that speedbumps kill!

I wanted to stick it back on the old sport wheels but couldnt sort swapping the tyres soon enough - I fully expect to return and find the immaculate 15 year old and freshly repainted wheels completely curbed :( with at least one of my new custom centrecaps misplaced.

Before I left tho I had wound the front down another 5mm, given the car a full oil and filter change as well as retrimmed my headlining in black suede and painted all the roof ancillary parts in black to match.

But when I get back in 4 weeks time tho - money in the account...

- Winding the car back to post Swissland height.

- New 185 50 14's all round for the low profile - wide tread look - down another 5mm at the front maybe adjusters out completely at the back...

- Roof and bonnet respray, front bumper and rear boot handle being repainted for free due to paint errors by the bodyshop.

- x3 Inner arches repainted due to cracking from being rolled.

- Gonna refurb the old sport wheels maybe black or grey to use as my track wheels and will stick my current tyres on them as they still have good life left in them.

- Getting the Tim-Tom bits on the interior redone in plain red will have to wait till I get more work tho...

But then - then finally I may feel the car is at a standard where I would be tempted to show it alongside the R32...

Just to remind myself that I am making slow progress with it - as is my mate Scott with his down in Plymouth, a photo from before I left and a photo back from 2011 to compare:

480305_10151389589988542_397454815_n.jpg

(This pic was pre the extra 5mm down on the front and the black headlining) Scott also now has a re-done black and carbon rear badge and joey'd black headlights.

Boss did mention that he may be interested in keeping me beyond the six weeks... In which case the lupo may have to emmigrate.

I may be away but have been ebaying for my return - hopefully a pile of packages waiting for me!

- New rear wiper aero upgrade

- New rear plate LED's as one broke just before i left

- Red footwell LED's - will look good as i will wire them to the interior light - which is also red - and i will tuck them up nicely so they are very subtle.

- New gear gaiter

Other things:

- Rear boot handle and front bumper getting repainted for free as the paint hasnt lasted.

- Roof and bonnet and arches getting repainted to de-rust and tidy up. So hopefully i feel confident enough to show it this year as there really is little more to do to it in the way of bodywork... then interior time!

Still undecided on tyres - i want lower profiles but dont want the extra lows due to the current height tearing my undertray to bits - want roadlegal slicks but dont want to die on a rainy day or have to replace them every few thousand miles, so will probs buy the same yoko s-lines again and swap current tyres to old sport wheels for track use.

Also ordered some more photography bits:

- More flashes

- Remote flash fixings

- Wireless triggers

- Exposure timer

Cant wait to be back in the UK!

Back from Switzerland now, bit torn as to where to live as I have a 1 day a week job in Taunton which barely covers fuel to-and-from Plymouth, but in Taunton at the moment so made the use of parental facilities to give the car a full workover cleaned inside and out.

Just ordered my new tyres last night, Yokohama A539's 185 50 14's as I decided that I would rather suffer lows than suffer tyre scrubbing, road legal slicks just werent available in the desired sizes so gave them a miss for now so hopefully they will be good, here within a fourtnight hopefully.

Just got to find time to get some paint quotes...

Few things to update in my online car diary...

Dear Diary, today I did this:

Gave the lupo a rinse to remove the avian missiles,
480356_10151453259478542_1501659496_n.jp

Then I made a flat boot to make the car into a 2 seater as I never take rear passengers anyway and bootspace is greatly improved! left the seatbelts to help secure luggage, will be adding a cargo net or two at some point.

Quite proud of my craftmanship :P

If any other Lupo peeps are interested in one, now I have the template I can make one up for you for £125 if your happy to collect from Taunton.

My new rubber also arrived, super sticky low profile goodness!

922697_10151453261283542_1184952719_n.jp

My current tyres dont really need replacing, but I just wanted lower profiles, and as it is a shame to waste good tyres...
403173_10151453260733542_609889575_n.jpg
The return of the sport wheels! they received a fresh refurb in VW Satin Silver to match the ATS's.
They will be my track tyres for combe as with no spacing, rolled arches and 10mm higher offset, they wont catch on anything no matter how hard I push it.

Tyres getting fitted tuesday, and getting my rear right hub re-tapped as every bolt I put in it is single use...

Less noteworthy, I bought a new aero rear wiper conversion which looks much smoother compared to the original.
936867_10151453261293542_1173900627_n.jp

I also bought a new gear gaitor with red stitching so that it matches everything else in the car!
298236_10151453261533542_46618867_n.jpg

I also kept with the red theme and fitted LED footwell lights, they are nice and subtle and are wired to the interior light so are only on when I open the doors, they do suit the car as they add to the red so no complaints!
Only got a daytime pic atm:
934013_10151453261883542_233378230_n.jpg

Didnt previously properly post up the suede headling and blacked interior plastics despite it happenning before i went to switzerland.
310859_10151453261693542_486926312_n.jpg
And another red light :P
644500_10151453262213542_2061799995_n.jp

And to finish, a photo of how it sits now.
163964_10151453262373542_1552777666_n.jp
Will be dropping a further 5mm on the low profile tyres which will allow for me to wind the fronts down another 5mm to make up for the 5mm new arch gap, the rear stays the same as it cant go lower as it already has the adjusters out.

nice progress man, love your attention to detail

I'm moving back down to devon soon, give me a shout if you're meeting up with scott or other plymouth people, i'll don down :)

Heya, im only going to be down in Plymouth for weekend visits for the moment as i have only a one day a week job in taunton with a small Architecture firm.

But I'm sure i will be down at some point to meet up.

Really nice work there!

I like the way the mods are not over the top. And all the little changes in the interior... Not to mention the wheels

Joe

Cheers! I love the wheels, and even my parents who hate that i made any changes at all - admit they quite like them.

I like the car to be handsome and not showy, You only really notice the changes when you get into a near standard interior - then you appreciate.

Next up will be a seat arosa mkii binnacle cover and clock surrounds to get rid of the mismatched grey around my current clocks.

Finally the tyre shop got round to fitting my tyres at 8 in the evening yesterday, he also retapped my rear hub - so hopefully no more issues with that. It was too late for him to stick the old tyres on the sport wheels, so i left them overnight for him to do in the morning.
Cleaned the car this morning to get grease off of the tyres only to reveal that all 4 wheels have been damaged by his tyres machine with gauges in all of them, so i now have to repaint all of them, went back to complain and pick up my other wheels.
Other wheels still werent done at 5pm in the afternoon when they were a "first-thing-in-the-morning" job, then i saw them chucked in a corner, checked they were all ok still only to find they had been piled on top of each other and two now require a respray. I complained, no offer to pay for paint to repair them, so i took the wheels away with me to get Lee to do them on saturday in Plymouth.
Not going to Kingston Motors again, hes been helpful in the past and i've overlooked bad wheel alignment, a gauge in my bonnet and a cracked mirrorcase from past visits but this was too much, he just doesnt give a s**t so he has now lost a regular customer and my parents two cars and horse lorry, and my grandmothers car from his servicing, hes also to blame for scratches on the R32's bonnet and wing from leaning over it with his belt buckle...

Anyway, wheel refurbs will hopefully happen this weekend as well as tyre fitting on the Sport wheels.

Here's how it looks now, although quite dusty :/

Also wound the front down another 5mm
