steelelfc
Apart from the obvious bumpers, 1.6 engine and alloys, what else makes a GTI look so good?
Silver!
Wider track and flared arches with a deeper mesh grill make it look chunky and give it IMO 'presence'.I also like what appear to be oversized headlamps, side\full beam and VW roundel, they give it's chunky, toyish cute character. steelelfc
Such a cool looking car the GTI, whereas i aren't a fan of the standard Lupo or Arosa. Wondering how easy and cost effective it would be to build a look-alike, mainly because the insurance on a 1.6 would kill me. Either that or an engine transplant
treblet
It would cost you far more in insurance and parts to modify a normal Lupo to look like a GTI than it would to buy a GTI!
Johnwin
well said too many people dont realise the cost involved

g60greeny
can they be that expensive to insure for a younger driver?,damn i must be getting old its the cheapest car ive insured so far lol Edited July 10, 2010 by g60greeny
Silver!
If you could insure a lupo with mods declared to look like a lupo GTi and run a GTi engine then you could definitely afford standard GTi insurance. He's saying he wants the looks, but not the engine at the moment. I think he meant get a GTI and put a smaller engine in.Careful with that idea as I used to work with a guy who's young son bought an XR3i and put a standard 1.3 Escort engine in as he couldn't afford the insurance. When he went to insure it they still hit him as it looks like an XR3i and therefore was 'of interest' to the dubious side of society.GTI also has extended sills to meet the flared arches. I'll probably just bite the bullet and buy a 1.6. Silver!, Your GTI is beautiful mate, looking at your Flickr now

Mitchell
i think both lupo shell's have plus point's, std looking shell's can be misleading hiding all sorts of goodies. whereas a gti is expected to be faster by peoples. i personaly like the arches on a std lupo more and the body lines look tidier to the rear, i've commented a few times on this and i think that std lupo gti's are going to be well sort after in future years as there are not that many, lot's wrote off etc and quite a few 18't ,charged ,etc about. so standard examples will be rare ,think along the lines of mk1 golf gti's, some people are willing to pay upto 10k for mint std examples.so i think modding the more abundant models is the way to go. CasperGTI
Ive lost count of how many 1.8t's there and charged there are now, theres so many lol....1.8t seems to be getting more common now, with the engine widely available now. I think there probably is 10+ in the Uk now (running and being built), and many many more abroad, Ive seen a 2.0T conversion floating about over in europe too now.As for charged... i can only think of mine and 4-5 others? anyone know of any more? me, andyp, hakeem, paulbin, dubjimbob. I dont know if anyone has stumbled over any over in europe? I know mine has turned up on a german forum, but i dont know if any others are on there?Im actually generally interestedJohn
