Lupo 1.4 16v Help :(

Recommended Posts

For about 8 months my poor girlfriend has had some very strange issues with her Lupo, she loves it to death but its driving her nuts. Rather than sell it i want to get it working for her to keep her happy again.

Problem: The car itself starts first time every time, but after a drive for longer than say 5 minutes then turning the car off ( for say petrol ) the car wont start, it turns over and you can smell fuel but she just will not spark up. Then after say 20 minutes of leaving the car alone, she starts first time.

Two garages have had a go, but neither of them have come up with the goods. One says its the fuel pump not giving enough preasure, but if you do manage to start it before the 20 mins by just turning it over and pumping the gas you just flood it, which means there is enough fuel.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Rob

Hi mate, from how you describe it i would say it was a temperature sensor fault. I had this on a mk4 golf 1.4, when it was cold it would start fine. But when it was warm it was impossible to start until it cooled. What happens is the faulty sensor tells the ecu that the engine is cold (when its not) and supplies too much fuel (like a choke). The sensor was only a couple of quid and took about 10 mins to change. You can even test to see if its this, next time it is warm and wont start disconnect the plug to the sensor and it will fire up straight away if it is a faulty sensor.

My bloody lucky GSF only sell the light green one not the dark green and blue on. Looks like a trip to VW is in order.

Honestly if this fixes it, I am going to call up the garages that looked at the car for my Mrs and tell them they are fools !!!

i just plugged my car in and the faults are 02 sensor and engine temp sensor.

euro car parts do both, and cheap.

should have the parts tonight, hopefully its the right one.

I would imagine the o2 sensor fault has been triggered by the temperature sensor failing. The o2 sensor will fail or report a fault if the car is running too rich (it measures the o2 level in the exhaust), which it would be if the temperature switch is knackered.

dunno was reporting a bad signal, im changing it anyways as its not been done in the service history of the car from what i can see.

im annoyed though, seems every time i use euro car parts they give me the wrong parts... got given the wrong temp sensor, so now ive got to try and get it all done before work. grrr
