Part Number for GTI Alternator

Recommended Posts

As title, trying to get prices for a new alternator to replace my knackered one most places are asking for the part number. Part number asap if anyone has it??

Also does the GTI use a 70 amp or 90 amp one?

The GTI uses both. I think the aircon version had the 90amp and non aircon 70amp

Cheers Mike, i am struggling getting the thing off the car, seems that the last bolt catches on the chassis leg. Have you done a change before and do you need to drop the engine? If so what's the best way to so this? Undo engine mounts while jacking the engine for support?

Yey alternator out the car! Tomorrow shall be spent finding some decent prices! What a faff though took about 3 hours, would say a mere hour if I was to do it again, now I know what to do! :)

Yeah was pretty much as you described, supported the sump and dropped the engine about 20mm or so and voila it was out. Was only a faff as i didn't know what to do really! GSF are the cheapest for a Bosch unit @ £108.50 + Surcharge so i think i will go with them.

Yours is a Bosch then?

The Lucas items have a removable voltage regualtor where the Bosch does not. Its cheaper in the long run if it packs up again, as Lucas provide replacement regulators.

I was happy to find out my GTI had the Lucas version

Ah right, the Lucas unit is £11 dearer than the Bosch, how much ate the regulators if you know?

Just I can get a Bosch unit this afternoon otherwise I have to wait until after the weekend for a Lucas one.

Well that settles it then Lucas it is. I take it the Bosch units have solid state regulators?

Alternator is all in now, car runs fine, but the belt is rather squeaky? NEver did this with the old alternator and the belt seems tight enough. Any ideas?

Ah right that will most likely be my problem then. The belt was off for about a week without any tension so maybe its just gave up on life. I shall sort this out soon! Thanks Mike
