The 1999 model year came with the solid head restraints and the lesser spotted white dials, I could only find this image of and earlier dial:The 1999 and 2000 models also had a very slightly different layout of the dashboard, the heated rear window switch and hazard light switch were housed together under the stereo where later models had the cup holder and storage drawer:This model has been fitted with GTI pedal caps.As time went on ABS was added to all Lupo's (I think in about 2003).The Lupo E can be identified externally by black door handles, black rubbing strips, black roof trims and on the early models (2000 and earlier) black door mirrors. The S and the E both wore the same style of 13" wheel trims:There was an option of 14" steel wheels:At the same time as the change in seat fabric the wheel trim designs changed:(please note this is an S)The optional larger wheel was also changed too:(again shown on an S)Lupo SEngine Availability1.4 Petrol 1.7 SDI DieselThis was the top of the range at launch.Standard SpecificationCentral locking with Anti hijack buttonFlashing LED light to indicate the doors are lockedCupholderBody Coloured door mouldings, Mirror caps roof strips and door handlesEasy Entry system for rear seat access (the front seat base also lifts as the seat is tilted to aid access to rear passenger compartment)Front Electric WindowsHeight adjustable passenger seatsOpening rear windowsYou were also able to opt for leather seats with the S model. The interior was trimmed in Plaza VelourIt was available inBlackFlannel GreyRed and BlackBlue and flannel greyYellow and BlackGreen and BlackLaunch Prices:1.4 S £95551.4 Auto £103551.7 SDI £9755Lupo SportThe Lupo Sport was introduced in the Autumn of 1999 as the 1.4 16V 100PS.This model was distinguished externally by the addition of front fog lamps, a 16V grille badge, a single central exit exhaust:(note this model has the optional extra three seat rear bench)Kyalami Alloy Wheel:This model added rear disc brakes and ABS to the specification and on early models "Tom" Seat fabric, this was a vibrant trim that featured cartoon Cats and Mice:It was availableFlannel GreyTwo tone Red and BlackBlue and GreyYellow and GreyGreen and greyLater this was replaced with a Black and grey interwoven velour interior from the GTI with a sportier style front seat design. In 2000 there was a new engine option added to the Sport range, the 1.4 TDI with 75PS and 144lbs.ft of torque as standard. This model missed out on the central exit exhaust which meant it could benefit from a normal spare wheel rather than the space saver the petrol model came with. Strangely the TDI also missed out on ABS, but the opening rear windows were available as an option that was not open to the buyers of a petrol Sport. The final model was added around the same time as the TDI this was the most special of all the Lupo models, it is of course the GTI.This car featured extensive use of Aluminium in the construction to save weight, the windows were made from thinner glass to save weight, to improve weight distribution the battery was relocated to the spare wheel well under the luggage compartment floor, (the wheel was sacrificed and a can of sealant and compressor were provided in its place). It had a 1.6 125PS engine. The GTI was very easy to identify, the car featured xenon headlamps and washers, mesh grille, roof spoiler, twin central exhaust, different front and rear bumpers and extended wheel arches that flowed into flared sills. Like the original Golf GTI the Lupo GTI had limited range of colours, Black, Red and Moon Silver (I believe Moon Silver was exclusive to the GTI it later became Reflex Silver and this was available to all models). Later Raven Blue was added to the choice of colours (This colour was exclusive to the GTI)Inside the car featured a leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals, two cup holders (normally there was a drawer and a single cup holder) a special GTI gear knob, it was the only model that was fitted with an alarm as standard. The GTI also had an 8 speaker Gamma radio cassette. Whilst inside you would also notice the dials were housed in a different style, the standard dials mimicked the Sydney Opera house:whereas the GTI came with an analogue clock, chrome trims and a single pod:You can identify the engine by the badging:1.0 was badged as "Lupo"1.4 was badged as "Lupo 1.4"1.7SDI was badged as "Lupo SDI"1.4 100PS was badged as "Lupo 16V"1.4TDI was badged as "Lupo TDI" (Different model years will have red D and I)1.6GTI was badged as "Lupo GTI"The Lupo SEThere were two special editions called SE.The first was created in 2000 it was basically with 13" Softline alloys and a very small SE Decal on the front wings. It was offered for a lower price than the standard E:Softline alloysThe second SE came in around 2002 and was a little more special again it was based on the standard E but this time it offered the buyer 14" Suzuka alloys:It was the only model available in Fresca Green. It was also available in Black and both colours came with "Shark" seat fabric and came with a bag made from the same material:It came with tinted tail lights (often known as "Cambridge" lights after a European special edition):The car also featured a perforated leather steering wheel, gear knob and hand brake lever:There were a couple of interesting options:The Open Air module:A full length fabric sunroofThen there was the colour concept option available on the S and Sport models, it is a rare option as it cost about £2000! It came with 14" Porta alloys, heated colour matched leather available in Flash red, yellow, fantasia green, Jazz blue or black.Porta Alloy: Edited January 20, 2010 by nfbr

Silver!
Maybe some of this is repeated, but handy all the same.E. Available with 1.0, 1.4 and 17SDI enginesThis is the entry level specification, there are very few creature comforts but twin airbags, BETA radio cassette, height adjustable drivers seat, Start upholstry on early models which changed to Strike. Later models also had ABS as standard whereas earlier models had it as an option for about £250. Electric windows and Central locking (NOT remote) were also an option for about £450. The exterior is identified by black rubbing strips, roof trims and on early models door mirrors. A 1.0 will be badged as "Lupo" a 1.4 as "Lupo" and "1.4" the SDI as "Lupo" and "SDI". The standard wheels were 13" steel. 13" and 14" wheels were an option and on earlier car 15" were available from your dealer.S. Available as 1.4 or 1.7SDIThis was the top level at UK launch. Standard upholstry was Plaza, the car had the same stereo but added electric windows, central; locking cupholder and storage drawer (although this became standard on later "E" models as well) the front seats had "esy entry" which meant that when folded to gain access to the rears seat the front seats jump a little to improve access. This model also had opening rear window vents as standard. This model is distr=inguished externally by body coloured mirrors, roof trims and rubbing strips.SE. Avaialble as 1.0, 1.4 and 1.SDIThere are two types of SE. The first was availble breifly in the year 2000 these are basically "E" models with 13" softline alloys, they were offered at a reduced price and some had an SE decal on the front wing. The second SE is more special although still based on an "E". These had a choice of black or fresca Green paint (this green paint was only available with this model.) the interior had a special trim (I think called Shark) which was black with a sage green insert, they came with 14" suzuka alloys, a leather steering wheel (the only Lupo to get one as standard as side from the GTI) leather gearknob and handbrake this was perforated leather not the smooth style ones in the GTI or model with optional leather. This model came with a bag in the same fabric as the seats and with tinted tail lamps (often refered to as "Cambridge" lamps after a special edition in Europe)The next model is the Sport. Available with 1.4 100ps and 1.4 TDI enginesThis model is probably best split into petrol and diesel as there are a few difference between the two, basic Sport equipment in addition to the S was 14" Kyalami Alloys, front fog lamps (with electric mirrors on later models) and ABS on petrols(and later TDIs) ealy Sports came with "Tom" upholstry which was vey brightly coloured with cartoon mice and cats on, this was later changed to interwoven velour with sportier seats from the GTI.Petrol Sports have a central single exit exhaust and are badge as "Lupo" "16V". They also have rear disc brakes.Diesel sports don't have the central exit exhaust, they could opt for opening rear window vents (petrol sports could not) These cars are Badged as "Lupo" TDI" the D and I may be red this indicates no differnce in the engine it was just to bring them into line with the rest of the range. TDI model may also be identified by the smug look on their owners faces as they surge about on 144lb ft of torque while paying £35 road tax and acheiving stupid fuel efficiency figures The last model in the range is the GTI. This only came with a 1.6 125ps engine. They have xenon lights, black headlining 15"Bathurst alloys, twin central exit exhausts diffent bumpers different sills wings....Gamma Cassette with 8 speakers remote locking and alarm leather steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake lever. This is not an exhaustive list I am sure others will add to the differences. It is worth noting that models with central exhausts (Petrol Sports and GTI's) do not get a full size spare, indeed the GTI gets a can of sealant and a pump to make space for the Exhaust and on GTIs the Battery.
