dany19940
It's time to present my Arosa. It's a 2003 modell, 6H, AUB engine, 1,4/16v/101 BHP, now upgraded to around 107-108 BHP. When I have bought it, it had a lot of scratches onto front bonnet, both bumpers and front wings, so I decided to repaint it. So,now, it looks brand new. It had OMP springs, but the ride with them was quite bumpy, so I have replace them with standard ones, at least for the winter season. When I have bought the car, the engine was blown. Piston no.1 rod had broke and maked a big hole in the engine block. So I had to rebuild the engine. I was lucky to do that, not so expensive. It took me around 600 Euro only. Distribution included. New piston rod, one piston with rings, crackshaft bearings, oil pump, three valves and engine block welded. Now the car is running like a charm and my wife is very satisfied about it. Originally, the car had 15" wheels, also scratched. I had repaint them, with powder in electrostatic field, and baked them into oven. Now they like new ones. For winter season, I have bought 14" iron wheels with new winter tires. And, finally, I have done a little chiptuning to the engine. Pictures with my car are here: http://s639.photobucket.com/albums/uu117/danny19940/. I did not figured it out how to post pictures directly here. If one of admins could do that for me... I will apreciate it !!! Edited November 17, 2009 by dany19940
little rich
Welcome along, Arosa looks tidy, and well done on doing the engine! Wheels look spot on imo.Rich.
99hjhm
Very nice... Did the engine throw a rod then??
dany19940
I think that all that happened because of a faulty oil pump. No lubrication=crankshaft bushings melted. The car was running on a highway with over 120kmh when it happened. Piston no.1 rod came out through engine block.
pro3mark
Scary when that happened?
99hjhm
You were lucky not to scrap the crank and the rest of the engine then if the oil pump failed? Poor old 1.4L engines.
dany19940
It wasn't me behind the steering wheel. The car was driven by a lady who bought this car from Italy and she was coming home with it. I think she was scared a lot. Than the car stood in front of her house for about 3 months and she was looking for a replacement engine. Somebody's bad luck is somebody's else's luck. Checking on internet, into different forums and asking in some local car service shop's, I understood that this trouble with oil pump is a common fault at these engines. In my town, at the same time with this car, another 3 or 4 VW engines had the same issue, but with less damage.
jon_273
Good job on getting it back on the road. I see you also have Air Conditioning - that is something we never got in the Arosa over here I think someone else with a lupo sport (yellow?) also had a rod punch a hole in the engine block, I hope this is not becoming a common occurrence
johny BOY
salutare. Foarte frumoasa masina.Do you have any ideea what is the difference between 1.4 AUB engine and the 1.4 AUA engine? What gives the rest of the 20bhp?
dany19940
I do not know what is the difference between AUA ans AUB. I have some pdf files about these two engines and I cannot see any difference. For sure, the programm in ECU is different and , maybe, camshafts. dany19940
I have installed to my both cars poly bushes from http://www.superpro.eu.com/(for Toledo) and from http://www.powerflex.co.uk (for Arosa)and I'm quite satisfied now about handling. It's a mixture of feelings. The grip is very good and speed cornering, U-turn's and roudabout's is a delight. Also Arosa have now a new badgeless front grill. The old one was with a kind of mesh and I was not satisfied about it. Both cars have now all bulbs changed with LED ones from superbrightleds. These are my last modifications for this year, I think. In one week I will leave offshore for about 4 months. I have a question for Arosa owners: I want to have speakers also in the back side. If anyone will have to give up to his back side panels and they are with speakes mesh, dark grey colour fabric, I would like to buy them. Please keep me in your minds for that. . dany19940
I have a question for forum members: I read here about a lot of different styles of back lights. I do not know wich one is wich. Can somebody post some pictures so I can finally know the difference? By the way, there are tuning modells for these lamps? I am also looking for angel eyes style headlights for my car. Any manufacturer ? I saw some pictures and they look nice. dany19940
Quite some time I haven't posted here. In meanwhile I have done some new modifications to the Red Thunder: I have changed the back lights, because the Lexus type ones were not so nice for my eye. Also, I have installed heating to front seats. Here are some pictures:I hope the pictures are clear. I also hope that I get how to post pictures here. I have two more modifications in my mind for the future: cruise control and ASR or ESP. For the last one I need your help, folks. Now it has only ABS module (Part No: 6X0 907 379 B, Component: ABS 30 IE CAN V004). The help I need is the answer to one question: any of your loved cars has ASR or ESP on them? If yes, I need the codes for controller and pump. I would be more happy with ASR ones, because retrofitting ESP requires a little more parts and wires and work. Also, if there are more than one code for ASR, with more functions for the module...please let me know. I mean that there are modules with ABS/EDL/MSR/ASR function. Also, there are modules like "ASR front" only written in interrogation box with VCDS (component). The same modification I will do to the other Seat family car wich I have. I already bought the module for it. Now I wait for your reply's anxiously. Edited March 19, 2011 by dany19940
dany19940
C'mon, lads, nobody can't help me with some answer? Anyone with some ideas about this modification?
dany19940
I haven't wrote for a long time here. My Red Thunder is still working great. No more mods were done yet, but I still not forget about the ASR braking module. I have passed to winter equipment: a set of Golf 3 14"steel wheels with winter tires. Now I have something more important to do: building my dream-house. Next spring or beginning of summer it is supposed to be ready to move-in. So wish me luck! dany19940
I really don't know. It was like this when I bought it from Italy. But the tips are replaced as I have seen under car. I think original was only one oval exit, but now are 2. The sound is very nice, like a rumble. dany19940
Again, after some long months, I remember to post again here. Almost two months ago. my wife hed a little crash with it. Since than I am looking for replacement parts for it. I still cannot find the right side front fender (or wing) and the whole front side, the one wich is holding the headlights, radiators and others. I am asking for your help, guys. If anyone have these parts for sale, I will be glad to buy them. I have a friend working in UK and he can do that for me. So...please...make me offers. I need the car to be finished. She is in the parking lot of an repair shop and I am paying tax also for this.
dany19940
After some time, I remember to post: the car was fixed with parts from Spain and it is running great since then. The only new thing I have done is drilling the rear door cards so I can install speakers. dany19940
I have rebuild the engine about 6 months ago, because of little oil consumption. At the beginning all I wanted is to change the valves seals, but after opening the cylinder head I decided also to change the pistons completely, so I will not open the engine one more time after. So done that and now it's running like a charm - no noises at all and no oil consumption. MOT done without a glitch 2 months after that.
