ECU Failed

Apparantly my car is now fixed! Heres the story: Phoned VW on Thursday (3 weeks after I put the car in), was told it was currently in the workshop and they would call me back, suprise suprise I got nothing. Phoned back yesterday, the tech was really defensive from the word hello. I asked what the current situation was with the car and hes like "its in the workshop now OK". What hes saying has happened it hes put the ECU back in, and the cars been running perfect since? Bearing in mind this is the original ECU they wanted me to pay £555 to replace, and I had it tested and its fine. He then said because the fault is intermittent, when I got it tested, the ECU appeared to be fine, but there is a fault there?! He said they checked all the wiring and everything else is fine, but he still thinks I need a new ECU. So I asked what happens next, and he was so bloody rude, said they were doing the cambelt and service now and they would take it from there. Then I get a call last night at work from them and get told my cars fixed and I can pick it up?!

I'm leaving soon to go get it, thing is, I think theyre entitled to eff all for the "repair" tbh. What have they done, disconnected and reconnected an ECU?! After telling me I needed to pay for a new one! I'm probably going to end up in an arguement with them, we'll see! Bringing a male friend for moral support! haha! I just hope its all working, its been too long.

I think they when they see a young person who 'only' has a Lupo they look down on you, think they can fob you off and give you poor service. My local dealer did it with me. Just remember you are entitled to the same level of service whether you drive a fox or a phaeton!

I don't think it's fair that they charge you for the ECU as they haven't done anything. Plus you are still using them for the cambelt change which you will still be paying for. TBH they should apologise to you for messing you around!

To follow on from my last post...picked the car up from VW on the Saturday, ran about it in it all day, working fine, smiles all round! Lol, early hours of Sunday morning, leaving a friends house and uhoh, started doing the same thing  Clearly not fixed. I struggled on for a week or two and it was quite apparent it hasnt been fixed. I put it into another garage 2 weeks ago, they've barely done anything tbh, lazy ****ing sods, but they have now also said its pointing towards the ECU....

VW say ECU

PSI Tuning test the ECU and it works perfect, no sign of a fault

Another garage say it looks like its the ECU!

So I'm waiting on the garage getting back to me with a final answer as to whats wrong. If its the ECU I'm taking it back to VW and kicking up a fuss, tell them they said it was fixed and it clearly isnt. If they want to order a new ECU fine, but if its not the fault I'm not paying a penny. Need to see how it goes from here :(

VW say they are struggling to recode the ECU as it already has a code, ie they normally only ever code brand new "virgin" ECUs, therefore this is a little bit difficult for them.

Either they manage it, job done, car comes home, or they put the old one back in and I still take it home, and get someone else to decode and recode. Hardly as if an ECU from one car has never been put into another car, course it has, making me mad again.....

Not quite, VW couldnt do it, getting it done by a specialist this week...

****. I'm fairly certain this is starting to happen to my car.

When its not starting does it click and the time and trip distance all re-set?

It sounds like it has started then chucks it and turns over again, sometimes does this several times on the one turn of the key. The hands on the clocks one buzzed and moved and the distance and time re-set themselves, this has only happened once though. PM me if you need any more info and I'll see if I can help.

Much appreciated : ) but on a second reading , I don't think this is the cause of my issues.

Thats good, it was a right pain for me! Got it all sorted now though.

Been speaking to VW Tech today regarding a similar matter (turned out not to be the ECU) and he rekons there's no difference between coding a Virgin ECU to coding in a Second hand unit out of another car.
