melupo
Hiya,The bracket on my lasses Lupo exhaust seems to have broke and the exhaust is hanging down. I phoned the dealership and they're saying I need a new back box as the bracket is attached to it. Is this correct? They've quoted me £481 all in. jamiea7x
depends on how the bracket has came off of its came with a chunk of the backbox with it then youll need a new one and if the hanger is just came away then i assum eyou could just get it rewelded
rosscarbry
yeah just reweld it on or try an exhaust and tyre place for 1 lol
andyp
500 quid is a joke as well.... you could buy an aftermarjet system for that.. just take it to a garage and see if they can weld it back up.
DB56K
I have had the same thing happen and it has now been welded twice in just over 2 years in between whilst having its service at vw they tried to tell me I needed it replacing quoting a similar price to you about 460 if i remember correctly - but I'm not having that unless it some way impacts the running of the car which it doesn't as far as I'm aware ? melupo
The exhaust did sound like it was blowing a bit so I'm not sure if this was the reason. Cheers guys, I'll get it checkout somewhere else.
heartagram
If its just a 1.0L or a 1.4 non Sport get yourself down a scrap yard and you'll pay no where near that. I normally pay a tenner for a back box at my local yard.
Fow Vay
Same thing happened to me - two brackets had come away but they managed to weld them back on. That was last year - they seem to have held up ok as no mention was made at this year's MOT - I was getting my cambelt done so didn't fancy a new exhaust on top of that! lupoluke
A common problem is that a bracket breaks just after the cat near a flexi pipe, and then the flexi pipe comes away from the exhaust which means you haved to replace the cat, but still £480 is very steep. melupo
Ok turns out the bracket had broke and the weight had snapped the back box off. So a new back box/intermediate pipe has been fitted. Unipart £130 all in.......much better than £460. However when the car was on the ramp I noticed that the bracket for the 'manifold' part (I think) had come loose. I was told it could be welded but I've not time before it's MOT is due. Anyone know if it will fail on this? Don't want dealer to try and charge me for a new part if it can be welded. However, fortunately the garage managed to weld the bracket back on (it was actually the front & rear brackets!).
Guest Lauryn
I had a rattling coming from underneath my car a while back, took it to a garage and turned out it was 2 brackets which had came away, had it re-welded for £20 at a specialist exhaust place! lupoluke
You could bodge it up for the mot, as long as the exhaust is not gonna fall off an theres no danger of it catching fire ect it should pass.

Niche
I had a rattling which got worse week by week. Turned out to be the backbox...it had rotted away so much that the valve which opens and closes fell off inside.I quite liked it as it turned out to be quite the granny scarer. Although it did give a nasty vibration through the gas pedal.
