This is really the only forum i use as i find most of the others are so full of "sceneys" that it becomes unbareable.

Mitch's comment about the respect thing is spot on, Thats what you see at places like no-rice for example there is a G40 that has recently been turning up, the guy who owned it quite obviously just threw his wallet at it and then took the respect when it was done. You ask him a question, and he tries to bull**** his way through an answer.... and looks like a knob in the process. Respect only comes from knowing what your talking about in those situations, not bigging yourself up with complete twiddle.

Im a sole believer in the built not bought motto, but only because i have the resources to do it. Respect is still due to the person, who dosent have the resources, and brakes a ******* saving up to have the work done... its the same in that manner, Why does i have to be a popularity contest? you build you car becasue thats the way you want it to be, not because thats whats going to make you popular. Or atleast thats how it should be.

I hate this scene thing, take bbs rm's.. its only the scene thats makes them expensive.... wait untill there not scene any more and see more of them on sale that hot cakes, it shouldnt be like that.... but its fashion in the end of the day, take skinny jeans for example!

In the end of the day, i dont care what people think. Im doing what i want because i want to do it, ill happily talk about it to people but i wont bull****, if im not "scene" enough then i couldnt care less... atleast i know what im talking about and have acheived what i wanted to acheive when i set out - A good motto to live by i think.

John

There was that Polo as well that was done for Ultimate Dubs. They got stopped by the cops cause it was totally illegal but that was cool. Even though all they had done was wreck a car.

Hey guy's an girl's great thread i've alway's been part of the built not bought way of thinkin though not being a mechanic can lead to some interesting times...

For example a couple of months ago my heater matrix went on my mk2 golf so off i went to gsf got the parts needed and dug out the haynes manual had a quick read through over a cup of tea and myself and a friend got to it thinkin we would be done in a couple of hours. How niave anyway after a day of cursing and removing various bits of the interior trim we had it replaced and finished off the next morning.

It could have been done at a garage in a couple of hours im sure but where's the fun in that! What else are days off for  . Also i didnt mention it was only just above freezing outside.

Me and my friends have spent many hours armed with not much more than a few spanners and a bit of common sense fixing our cars and it usually works out. After all if something comes off it usually goes back on in the same way.

Though the idea of have a "chequebook car" sounds great as long as you make some effort in my case i don't have a cheque book  .

oxford edition kam.. lol

Im not very good with mechanical stuff or other bits and bobs, i can do the simplish things but if i get stuck then i will ask for advice, plus on other things as well like styling as i dont want to put something on the car that wont suit it or would look silly. I dont understand cars that get built then get sold straight off as wheres the fun?

Ive done my car how i like it, yes with advice plus a lot of help from people, its never gonna win anything major or have loads of mag articles etc, but if it gets good comments from peeps at shows then im well happy with that.

As said, do what you can.

At the end of the day i would rather pay someone who knows what there doing to do it properly.

Esp engine work, Esp Bodywork.

LoL at the edition haterid, it is overly cliquey

Edit: im with andyp on the "whats the point in building it to then sell it straight away thing". . .Makes zero sence to me.

the lupo is my first car and i have been keen to try things myself. mayb they dont go entirely to plan like the bumper paint is **** although i fired it on for edition quickly and that will go to a pro after crimbo but i think modifying depends whether its somethig u want to learn or not. if u dream something up and then giv it to someone else to make a reality then fair enough.... i personally at present wouldnt have the funds and i like freezing my balls off doin things on the car in the drive lol....

as 4 the scene i like my car to get compliments on here as most people have the same car so if u do something everyone nos wats been done, but at the likes of ed38 show, i went to show my face to people on here and have some banter as living over the water i wont meet many of u... my car didn get a wash over the 700 mile round trip and didn move from my tent the whole weekend.

cool thread

cheers

I do mostly everything on my car my self  , i don`t have specialist tools or a unit, everything is done on my drive way (at the moment i am soldiiering on through the gail force winds and rain replacing my pedal box "around" work and college hours). I have respect for people who pay some one to do there car, but i have more respect for people who modify them selves, purely because of the blood sweat and tears thats gone in to the final product. What i don`t like is some one who buys a readily modified car to pass on as there own. And as for the scene i couldn`t care less, I got a lupo to be different and i like the fact i get border line plastic gangsta`s asking why i didn`t just get some 17" alloys and a bad boy bean can. What i am trying to say is if you do it your self great, if you pay some one to do it for YOU good. If you have to much money and throw anything on your car bad.

you have direction and i dont recall you ever asking others thought's on what will look good, and your cars look good. hence your own thoughts on what must go on the lupo allready. lol

any takers on the speakers yet

Lol in this case Id never get any respect. Im far from capable to do anything myself apart from choose what I want.

So I guess I have no respect.

I mean like people who just whack anything on there car without any thought, or worse pay some one to whack anything on there car with out any though, theres a guy round the corner from me who buys a corsa or other similar rusty ****box from the "aucies" whacks some plastic crome **** on it and a cd player an sells it on for a grand, really

irritates me lol.

I don't understand the mentality of these guys that: build a car, debut it ,then sell it

or the ones that buy a classic or rare car and don't drive it ?

why buy the pump, a tank and fill it with water, if your not going to put some fish in it ?

I can understand building a car and then selling it on as soon as it's finished. The build can be the fun bit. I don't get paying someone else to build it for you and then selling it though.

I guess it boils down then to the fact then that some people/"the scene" (God i hate using that term) is very, very Fickle.

And its not a case of " Oh i dont like you anymore coz you didnt do your conversion yourself and now everyone is wearing you as a hat" and its not a case of "Omg you are like so amazing and famous in the scene coz you've done everything yourself" - if you've got a nice car then for me personally i congratulate you and will be forever jealous :P

I just dont see why the whole Credit Card Car thing has become such an issue for some people, yet say for example they were to meet said person/car that has had thousands spent on it where the owner probably wont even know what a forged piston is - they'd be first in line to lick their ring

ps. very tempted to put a link to this on Edition - would be interesting to get views from the cool kids  And no, im not and Edition Hater before anyone says. :)

Just seems like starting an argument for arguments sake.

No not at all. I personally got the impression that the forum is the be all and end all of the Dub world, and anything they say goes - But thats just my view.

I made all the clothes and the pair of shoes I'm wearing myself. I wasn't able to precision grind the lenses in my glasses though. Do I lose 'scene' points for that?

If you have the vision and creativity, but not the tech or artisan skills to see the practical side of a build through, so what? Those that moan about those who pay for someone to see a project reach fruition should be mindful that most of what they churn out is generic anyway. No respect points for the 'me too' modders irrespective of them gettign ther hands dirty or not.

What a crock of ****e. You speak like they are some mystical power, there just people (albeit some of them ride particularly high horses, but they are just people).

So Giugiaro loses scene points because although he had the creative vision of the Golf he didn't actually build it himself ?

As long as the vision has the Ammo it doesnt really matter who delivers it

If you're genuinely passionate about building a car to your own specifications you are undoubtedly going to be involved in the build in some way,

even if its just keeping tabs on progress and having an input as to the way things are done

what i cant live with is the carting your car off and not seeing it for 7 months then collecting it with everything done, no idea of the process's or how things have been done

this type of topic has been on ed38 before though, so it's nothing new and people may want to think about what they are doing before linking them to this topic , as club lupo has a good relationship with ed38 .

in saying that though they'll probably just laugh, lol

i know most of the lad's and they are a cracking bunch but as club lupo has recently found out they suffered the same fate with thier off topic general chat being used for slanging matches and they chose to close it aswell, it was just before all that stuff started that i stopped visiting the site, as i said a in my other post it was a shame, however i know the lads and a face to face chat brings you back to how the forum was when it started.

Totally agree with this, i met most of them at the show this year and they're a good bunch of blokes. Pointless just posting a link to start an argument!
