heartagram
Sisters car snapped the clutch cable. Garage has quoted her £75 for the parts and £40 for the labour. Labour is fine by me, but £75 for a clutch cable seems totally unrealistic and more like a "ooo, theres a girl who doesn't know about cars" kind of price. I would have expect it to be about £75-85 all in. Not £115! I mean all there doing is unhooking a cable and then feeding a new one through. Half an hours work max. I would sort it out myself but shes in Edinburgh and by the time I put fuel into the equation its not gonna be worth it.
Gibbeth!
Cant she get the cable herself and get them to fit it?A clutch cable shouldn't be more than £20 should it?
nfbr
Thats a rip off...What car is it ?
Niche
I think a genuine one should be at least half that. I can't remember what I paid for my clutch cable but it came as the whole part...spring etc included.
Tigz™
if she wants it done cheaply and she can get the car to Stow (15 miles or so) let me know.
heartagram
I've told her to ring the place and find out if they will fit it for the £40 they are quoting if she supplies the part. I don't think she has the know how of how to drive a car without a clutch pedal, haha. If anyone is around the Edinburgh area and wants to earn themselves £40 for half an hours work I'd rather give the money to you than some pikey garage. The car is a 6N Polo (S Reg). IDGM
I've not driven a car with a snapped clutch cable since the one in my MK1 Ibiza failed in 1990. Happy memories!
Mike_M
I recently did a Clio for the other half.........it took me about two hours to fit as I was unfamiliar with the car and £17 for the cable from Renault
heartagram
Seem to have changed there tune today, reckon now it'll be £70 all in. Amazing how asking a question can take the price down by £45..
Tigz™
Whats the name of the garage?Tell her next time to use a company called 'Multifleet' and tell them she knows me.
Adam
I'd get her to take it somewhere else mate, even if this garage has dropped the price, they sound like con merchants and i wouldn't want my money going to them.
heartagram
Dunno mate, But I'll pass those details on.I think the RAC wouldn't take her else where without charging so its not really worth taking it else where. Cars = daylight robbery.
