vw have now concluded the new lupo is too high and compromised to be a truly efficient model. its still being made but a new entry level model is now being made, the chico. it will be lower profile roofline and much more sleek and aero efficient, a 2 seater.

141mpg! and less than60 g/km.!

uk in 2011 for perhaps £6k.

1.2 petrol 4cyl with 2cyl shutdown feature.

also 1.2 3cyl diesel.

stop start and brake regen as standard.

likely battery model in future.

Well done Nick, thats the link i posted!

An early precursor to the modern hybrid, the Volkswagen Chico combined a two-cylinder, 34-horsepower gas engine with an electric assist motor to give the small city car a top speed of 81 mph. Like the modern VW up! family of concepts, the Chico was designed to reconnect with the roots of the classic air-cooled Beetle. In this case, its styling contains no hard edges — just radii and arcs that create a smooth body envelope. Its front doors, in particular, are worth noticing: Their double-hinged action moves the doors out laterally before letting them pivot, making it easier to enter the car in a tight parking spot. The Chico could have positioned Volkswagen at the forefront of microcars years before Mercedes and Swatch teamed up to lose money on Smart.

Meh, i just want an Up! tbh :coffee:

Cheeky sod!!

Im very busy helping the homeless FYI - far too busy to try and break the child locks on the work computers just to host a picture of a car (which is quite frankly so hideous it should of been crushed at birth and never spoken of again) just to please you, Mr Niche.

So mneur!!!! :P

the pictures posted is the old vw not the new one, so those saying they prefer to have an up to the new chico are comparing against something which they have never seen. the new chico is based on the new up/lupo platform but will be much nicer looking than the up as it will be more sporty looking and less mpv like. think low profile.

If they want to solve the problem with the 'Up!' not being stable in cross winds...the least they could do is put on a set of 13" alloys...that way you have a lower centre of gravity and quicker acceleration.

Yeah!

and make it available in pink.

its to do with economy not stability in cross winds. lowering the UP would improve things, but still the shape is wrong. also they want the up to be a 4 seater. with what they are doing to the chico it could only be a 2 seater with the shape its getting.

Yup economy...5" smaller wheels = quicker rolling radius...otherwise known as the engine doesn't have to work as hard to spin the wheels.

Small wheels = Economy...get it right VW!!!

And what do you mean its not to do with stability in cross winds? The VW Up! is a big FAIL because it can't handle cross winds...I was merely stating the obvious to VW.

i didnt know it had a problem in cross winds, do you have a link? or are you referring to the test cars which were rear engined? these had stability issues in cross winds. but the up is front engined now.

small wheels are good, they dont have to be small in diameter though. some prototype eco cars have 18-20" wheels, but they are narrow and more economical than say 15".

i dont know what wheels the up is having, or the chico.
