Mine has a sort of "pitted" effect as apposed to bubbling alone the bottom of the door sill (Not sure if people are fllowing my crud descriptions!) Wonder if this will come under a paint defect?

Guess i'll be paying Herratige a visit :)

Great news that everyone is getting theirs sorted

I am glad everyone is getting some use from this.

I think the response from dealers will be similar to the pedal box issue. Those that genuinely value their customers will take time to sort the problem. Those that are more concerned with making maximum profit will try to fob you off as any "warranty" jobs aren't as profitable to them service/repair job.

Incidentally I didn't question mine in the service department. I went straight to the bodyshop who seemed a little more friendly and forthcoming.

The service department tried to do me out of £640 for a new CAT claiming that mine was dangerous as it was sercured by jubilee clips.

"Indeed it is secured like that" I said, "Due to the poor quality welding on the brackets and this repair was carried out by a VW main dealer 18 months ago"

Suddenly the term "dangerous" dropped out of the service womens patter. I then asked her how my rear bump stops were

"Fine sir, why do you ask?"

"Well 6 months ago another main dealer condemed them and tried to charge me £180 to replace them"

"Oh !" - She said

These were the very same bumps stops that I checked once I got home from that service and they were not corroded in the slightest. It went through its MOT 8 months later and I specifically asked about their condition then. They were fine.

I don't trust service departments in the slightest.

Adrian

They tried to charge me the same for a new cat, because apparently you cannot buy the official clip without the exhaust system. To which I went to a scrappies and gave them a clip.

lol

I didn't go back to my dealer for another year. But recently they have new staff and it seems a lot more friendly and welcoming, the prices have dropped, and generally everythings getting better.

Well VW turned out to be very helpful and they are going to repair the rust on our VW too.

And since its a caravelle they said they would try and find something big for us to have while its in getting the bodywork done.

:)

How did anyone one else get on with VW and their rust?

We picked our caravelle up tonight from VW after they have had it two weeks!

It had rust on the front A pillars, where there is a join in the pillar. Lets just say, the work isnt exactly amasing!

They have filled the gap between the join in the pillars in again, but the filler stuff stands pround of the body, there is overspray on some pannels, the very bottom of both pillars have very little paint on and can still see the undercoat though the paint, its also very very rough finish like they havent washed the car before painting. The door seal rubbers have been glued back on and are falling off, the windscreen had to be removed and the rubber is now sticking out at the top.

TO make matters worse they have also put the wiper arms on the wrong sides, so one wiper is very short and the other is wiping the roof, they have scraped the drivers side mirror and there isa scuff on the rear sliging door!

You know this is the kind of job i would expect from a backstreet crappy garage who we have slipped him £50 for a quick job. And not something from a VW main dealer. Its a total crap job, i wouldnt take my wheel barrow there for painting!

The van is filthy even though it should have been valited. THe spray garage is 35 miles from the vw dealer we use, so know doubt one of their people have trashed it there and back, bearing in mind this is a 2.5 TDI with a remap!.

SO it means its got to go back again, all the hassle with taking it in, getting a crappy caddy loan van which isnt big enough for what we need.

So they are going to get back to use about it, too right!

This is my dads pride and joy, its always imacluate and hasnt a scratch to be seen, until we let VW lose with it.

All dealers are total Sh*t. Its very rare i actually go to a dealer and get the job i want doing right first time!

Sorry for the rant, but im fuming! :angry2:

:rolleyes::blush:

Just bear this in mind when your lupo goes in for rust work, check it very carefully and dont stand for a shoddy job!

You have my sympathies. I owned a late T4 Multivan for 5 years and was lucky and had few problems with it but I was dealing with a VW commercial specialists. These days the main dealers seem to handle the Caravelle/Multivan range and I think they are a bit non-plused by them. However there is no excuse for what has happened to your Caravelle, these vehicles are not cheap and are usually fantastic. Is the 2003 model the T4 or the T5? The reason I ask is that all the T4’s were built in Hanover as far as I know, whereas some of the T5’s are built in Poland so there could be issues with the new factory there.

Its a late T4 model, its the 2.5 TDi Auto Variant, so the best spec i think, with 70K on the clock - it was also in VW for its 70K service at the same time, just to say after this is sorted it will never go back there!

Its a great vehicle though, so plush inside - has vents above every rear seat in the roof with rear temp control which is nice, really quiet and quick with a remap too.

We havent had many problems with it though, an engine judder which VW through a load of new parts at it (under warranty) until it was fixed, drivers side door lock catch broke - was replaced under warranty and thats about it really over the 3 years we have had it.

Its dealers that let VWs, and indeed most cars down. We wanted a T4 with ABS, so we got the dealer to search around, and found one advertised with it at a VW dealer in kent (about 700 mile trip for us) so we got it. Only to find it didnt have ABS, but never mind, it was in mint condition with low miles and a really nice colour (Dragon Green).

I nearly sold my Arosa through the dealer recking the ownership experience for me, after they had it for 3 months without knowing what they were doing.

Its a shame really, VWs are generally great cars, but let down badly by the dealers. Dealers really need to get their act together :coffee: You have been told dealers <_<

This is shocking. Unfortunately, its a similar situation with a local dealer of mine. They outsource paintwork to another garage, which is known for doing a bad job. I got my new spoiler back with a dent and a scratch in at first until I told them I wasn't accepting this.

Cue brand new spoiler. But they then managed to mess up the third level brake light connections. I had this fixed by a specialist FOC but they advised a new module needed to be fitted. I didn't have time to wait for the order so it still only works intermittently, its hard living in two places! I hate it as often it will be working when it goes in the garage and I dont like the idea of having a substandard third level brake light.

GRRRR lol

Well we've just had a really good look round it and got a 15 item list of issues with it!

Well its a main VW dealer, dare i say the name! they out sourced the job to another branch about 30 miles away who have their own bodyshop, so it is a vw bodyshop.

Really dissapointed with it, its not what you expest from a main dealer - well actually thats a silly thing to say, its typical of dealers ;)

There is overspray on the roof, bonnet and both front wings, marks in the paint where masking tape has been painted up to (infact they have left the roll of tape in the car, with speckles of our green paint on it), really rough paint. Along with the things i listed above. I wouldnt care, they have only painted the A pillars, blended into the roof and sprayed right round the front windscreen. How can they get it so wrong

Yeah i know what you mean about the brake light, i like things to be working right too. Every now and again one of the bulbs in my thrid brake light goes out and then on again, not that i notice i just looks a bit taxi like

The van was imacluate before that, now my dad says it looks like its been in a bump and been repaired badly, which when you look it does. We wont accept anything it until its faultless! So it will have to go back, have the windscreen removed again and see if they can do it properly next time.

So in a perfect world we want it to go to the bodyshop we always use, he is a perfectionist and we know it will be done right, and then VW take the bill. Although if VW will agree to that i dont know, their body shop is incapable of doing it right the first time i carnt see how they will do it right the second time.

Its always the same though: Just to name one of the million examples:

Our scenic went in for a service at a main Renault dealer and we were told the rear tyres needed changing. So we said yeah ok then providing you fit michelin energys as thats whats on and we had just replaced the fronts with them. I went to collect it and nope, they had put on Michelin Primicys.

As if that wasnt bad enough, those tyres being Asymetrical they had put one on the wrong way  , so it said inside on the outside tyre wall! So i had to get them to change them for energys after id already driven 20 miles on the tyres - they wernt happy. But they did change them. While it was in i got a Diesel 307SW courtesy car, which 5 miles down the road turned out someone had put petrol in it! The dealer didnt care though. They soon went bust very quickly though, serves them right

It carnt just be me that has constant bad luck with dealers surely? Anyone else hate them?

Anyone else hate them?

Yeah, me! It took me and an RAC mechanic an hour to convince the guy at VW that my car was covered under extended warranty, despite what his computer screen was telling him! His attitude was basically: you're a young lad, you've only got a lupo, it's not a new car anymore, I can't help you :coffee:

The sad thing is that the poor job done on your Caravelle doesn't surprise. Do people not take pride in their work anymore?

I could write a book with my bad experiences from dealers, really!

Well my dad went round 3 bodyshop places today, all said its a very poor job, one even said they have wrecked it.

THe guy we usually use wont repair VWs shoddy work as it means the bonnet, wings and front doors need to be removed, and painted, painted behind the front wings and doors and the full roof painted.

The list of problems has got longer since we went round the bodyshops as each one pointed out different problems with VWs work.

I just carnt believe it. Our local VW garage has appologised and they are getting back to us tomorrow. We asked if someone from VW headquaters (or whatever) could come and see how its turned out, the dealer isnt keen on that as it could shut down their branches bodyshop.

Whatever happens i hope to god the low life who has wrecked our T4 loses their job, its the least that can happen.

We are totally furious, there is even overspray on the front wings and the roof seems to have been pqainted without even bening cleaned first as the new paint has grit under it!

THey did swap the wipers back over for us today anyway

I seriously hope VW get this sorted and fast. This is not good!

Both people we have spoke to at VW have said its unacceptable.

They have wrecked our (before VW got hold of it) immaculate T4. If its not sorted next time were not going to accept it till its right, although dont really want it to go back to the same place.

:angry2:

I mean the rust was better than this!

You must be joking!

No nobody has pride in what they do now, no matter what we get done (from a new bathroom to a new conservatory to buying cars etc) nothing ever is right first time. Its not as if we get cheap jobs either, we always pay top wack. Im begining to think this is were we are going wrong.

We were actually expecting something to be wrong, being a dealer job, but this this is beyond a Joke!

I would ditch the dealership and go straight to the MD of VWUK in Milton Keynes. A well structured, honestly written letter with photos of the work, dates and times of corespondance with the dealer. If you have photos of the vehicle before the work then even better.

If the dealership are worried out their future then they will do all they can to keep you sweet but it doesn't mean they will necessarily take account of their actions and provide a satisfying solution.

I sent letters to three names at VWUK, first class every three days until I got a reply, that was about my pedal box issue which is also well documented on this forum. They couldn't ignore me forever.

A little searching online or an inquiring phonecall and you should get names of the people who need to hear your complaint. I don't mess around now, I go straight to the top.

best of luck,

Adrian.

Just to add my 2p.

I noticed a similar bubbling along the passenger side roof gutter AFTER i bought my 1999 Sport Lupo, I wish i had noticed it before as i wouldnt have bought the bloody thing, the previous owner failed to point out several things about the car and this was just one of a number of things-Anyway,

I took the car to my local VAG dealer today and the paint technician inspected the car with his gismo which measures the thickness of paint, he kept saying "thats good".

Asking what he meant he went on to tell me that he's happy that the paint is all factory thickness/original and that he is happy to submit a request for the work to be done, he has to sent the request off to MK for them to either accept the claim, reject the claim or to come down for a further inspection.

He also informed me of a similar Lupo he looked at recently that had the work agreed, so fingers crossed-mine will be next.

He reckoned that the problem is caused by the finishing strip being pushed in incorrectly and damaging the paint, allowing moisture to get in and rust to start.

At the end of the day, i want to get a full respray done at some point as with most cars this age-there are imperfections but i dont see why i should have to pay the bodyshop a wedge for fixing the roof.

I will know in about 1 week and i will report back with the results.

Just heard today mine has been approved and is going in to VW next week.

Just for reference out of all the VW dealerships I have experienced in the last few years I can recommend the Bodyshop at VW Daybrook Nottingham (very helpful guys) and also VW Solihull for good customer service.

I won't go into the list of dealerships or departments I wouldn't recommend though...

Adrian

Right, I will be paying VW a visit when I finish Uni next month. It's worth a try!

I phoned up 3 times to chase the progress of my claim, and am still awaiting a reply - about 2 months on.

I am just going to see to it myself. I wasn't exactly reassured when I asked of they were going to repair it or just rub it down and re-paint it - he said something about just painting, then mumbled and tried to back track. When I then re-asked him exactly what they planned to do, he kept avoiding and changing the course of the conversation.

I would rather just see to it myself that it was done right!
