OK guys, I've been talking to a reputable tyre dealer today, who has been talking to me about what new shoes I can put on my GTi.....I really hate the std tyres that come with it, they're crap in the rain.

He's recommended that I could use these...what do you guys think?

Pilot EXALTO 195/50 R15 82H (Michelins)

Any ideas on whether these are truly suitable or not?

Thanks people!

I had those tyres in a 205/45/16 on another car and they were really good and spot on in the rain, l'd be a bit wiery of putting a 50 profile on though. Or maybe l'm just a tyre snob!

The tyre i am going to replace the front dunlops will be a Pilot Exalto 195/45 15, I am hoping it will reduce understeer, as it dose on the clio 182. Have enough info now to know that it is safe to do this.

at 300 quid for four, I'd go with Eagle F1s or similar - much cheaper and very little difference.

Nothing fundamentally wrong with using 195/50/15, just 195/45/15 is closer to the original tyre size.

I got 'em cheaper from my local tyre place than anywhere online could do, when you consider fitting costs. Bear that in mind before assuming that online places will be cheaper.

(I use Micheldever tyres near Winchester - cost £240 including `stick-on` weights inside and `laser-rig` front wheel alignment).
