Weeman
Its just reading through mags it says new vw's need a special gearknob as the bottom has a plastic extension collar type thing and that most unifit knobs wont fit.Is this true or total cack mate? Oh and how did ya remove the original? is it a case of grab the bottom of the gearshaft with pliers and unscrew the knob. Thanks
dbmonkey
I unhooked the vinyl gearstick surround from the bottom and lifted it above the gearknob to expose the base of it. On my one, the base was blue with a metal collar holding it place. Use a screwdriver or pliers to expand the collar, and the old gearknob should just come straight off, but will be attached to the vinyl surround thing. I replaced the gearknob with a Momo one, which was not at all specific to VW. All I had to do was put the correct size rubber cap (supplied) onto the gear stick and then tighten the new Momo knob accordingly. I would post some pictures, but not sure how to do it. :? Hope this helps anywho. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
