Snoopy Posted June 1, 2004 Report Share Posted June 1, 2004 I'd also heard that the `so-called` 'carbon fibre' bonnets were heavier than the normal bonnet! I think this is because to make a bonnet totally out of genuine `high-quality` carbon fibre would cost so much nobody would buy it.Also, this method of weight reduction is less to reduce your `0-60` times, and more to balance out the handling and centre of gravity of the car. That's why the front panels of the GTI are aluminium and the back ones are standard - to balance out the extra `front-end` weight of the heavier 1.6 lump, rather than to increase `quarter-mile` times `per-se`.
