Gearbox Shot - Already?

Recommended Posts

just thought id give you a quick update, Whitepost Garage in Gloucestershire have split the gearbox and found that the bearings were ****ed - he said they were rusty - when i reminded him that they had rebuilt it with ALL new bearings and they had sealed the box and fitted it back to the car, he told me - someone must have put water in the gearbox oil filler hole. So just a warning to anyone planning on getting there gearbox rebuilt - DONT USE WHITEPOST - there warranty means nothing, they did all the work, now 2k miles later its faulty and they wont fix it under warranty. Looks like im going to be out of pocket again. After a few hundred miles of driving it, iv had enough, and its going up for sale as soon as i get it back.

to be honest, iv gone beyond the point of caring now, its just getting me down thinking about it. Iv had the car on the road for about a week since i got it, and its been sitting in the vw specialist garage since, and i can imagine im gonna have a whopping bill from them to now. Lupo ownership hasnt been so cheap as i thought it was going to be! One good thing will come from it - who ever buys it next is going to get a perfect car!

Wow. im a student as well and i got my lupo being stupid at the age of 18. got it off ebay and thought it was ok. didn't look into it at all, found out it was a CAT D like 3 months after havin it. the bolts on the bushes where lose and i need to replace the front brake caliper as i have two different ones (which i still aint done £money£). i don't know WHY it's a CAT D and because its my fault that i didn't look into it, i have put my heart and soul into my lupo.

look it's a good car and i can see why your pissed off. u didn't get any bare faced lies like i did. a lot on peeps on here own GTI's so they may be able to maintain a car like that in money terms. but at the end of the day it just needs fixing. why don't you ask some peeps on here if they can help with the little stuff once you get that gear box fixed.

sorry for this long reply but think about it like this. you found a dog on the side road, took it in, gave it what it

needed then it becomes mans best friend

The Lupo needs you

got the gearbox back and had it fitted - smooth as a baby bum! seems that they may have done the job properly this time. Im well out of pocket too, after paying a garage to take out the box, paying whitepost to rebuild it and then paying the garage to put it back, but im glad its all sound. As said before, i was pretty miffed when id found the car id bought needed a few bits done to it that have added up to quite a few quid, but im now glad i can sell the car in a state id be happy with - and not have a guilty consience after selling it!
