Guest ModdedCars
If you went for the Supercharger and nothing else on the GTi, what output are we looking at?? 180bhp?I'd stick an exhaust on too, but I don't think I'm gonna bother with a K&N filter...I didn't like the look of the one on Jon's Polo GTi over in the Vortex....looks like it'll suck in too much hot air.... bAAx
QUOTE(shao_khan)I have been asking around and everyone I have spoken with so far suggests that the Lupo ABS sensors are Speed related and not load related, so if you did something to cause differential speed between then you may have problems...... seems we have loads of varying oppinions.darn, that lack of info doesnt make life easier doesnt it style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.. well, the man that suggested the sensor im so damn focused on (its not the ABS sensor, mind) doesnt really know the lupo "per se", he just mentioned that THERE MIGHT (but with probability close to certainty) be a gizmo on the rear axle, like TDi suggested btw, that checks how loaded the car is by how far it hangs down, in order to.. ah tomorrow im going to phone the bloody dealer to ask if theres a) such a sensor and style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> a technical manual available for the lupo so we can sleep easy in the future style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
bAAx
QUOTE(ModdedCars)i had to suggest to the man that there would be a sensor to adjust coz he didnt know (or care methinks) about it...Hmm....that fills you full of confidence, doesn't it? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />oh yeah baby style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
bAAx
QUOTE(Lupo TDI)Do you mean ESP? And don't forget that the brake power distribution between the front/rear axle has to be recalibrated too.this is the quote from TDI where he mentions that bloody sensor, thx TDi style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
bAAx
QUOTE(ModdedCars)******!Heres me thinking about lowering, and I'm having trouble at the standard height....Caught the little black thing underneath the front valance on a kerb today...made a nasty noise....ouch  had the same problem just now and decided low is low enough... im going for a standard height `tune-up` style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />and maybe height adjustable style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> had a chat with the `VW-garage` `tech-head`-honcho, he doesnt know about that damn `brakeforce-distribution`-sensor (cfrt supra style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ) either, theres just abs/esp sensor and that doesnt need recalibrating when lowering.. hope this ll FINALLY be the end of that particular worry.. bAAx
getting closer to a decision on the `suspension-deal` style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />today i talked (although i dont know why..) with the company that deals in bilstein dampers/eibach springs.. the one that "filled me with confidence", like matt said higher up style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ... talked about adjustables but thats simply WAY to expensive for me...1000£ or 1500£, depending if you want damping adjustment too, along with ride height adjust.... so thats a `no-go`..fixed ride height tuning (eg the Bilstein B6 sport damper, for use with the OEM springs) according to this particular individual is not really suited for small sportscars like the lupo because you STILL get massive roll in corners (damperlength is the same), it just happens more slowly (damping is higher than stock).. this solution is more for larger cars like passats or boras that want a more "sporting", stiffer ride than stock, which makes sense i think... this leaves me with the fixed ride height, fixed damping setup of a lowering damper combined with lowering springs (like eg. Bilsteins B8 sprint with a set of eibach springs)this would lower the GTi about 2 cm, to the approximate level thats currently being run by our dear `TDi-maestro` Rudy, who has disclosed me that he has a lowering from stock of around 5cm for the TDi, which is in itself, in stock condition, about 2 to 3cms higher than the GTi.. and he told me he changed his `driving-habits` of taking speedbumps at -ahem- speed in two weeks and that he doesnt really have any other problems (aside from taking 10cm high curbs) because of the mod.again according to the "man from the store" (EDIT: thats NOT rudy, lol), if you want to upgrade the loop, you get best results by lowering, hence lowering your centre of gravity, enhancing cornering stability and thus `road-holding`... any other solution (other than the more `track-oriented` adjustables style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) is just another compromise, not really an upgrade..so, now im walking the streets with measuring tape, checking out curb heights, and my `garage-entry` style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />does anybody know if you need `anti-roll`/swaybars after a suspension upgrade, to get the most of it??? i know there has been talking about that before but i cant be bothered to look it up style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />Edited By bAAx on Mar. 13 2002 at 23:
shao_khan
I was talking to some guys this afternoon and they reccon that H&R utilise Bilstein Dampers and springs, rebadged..... wonder if this is true???
bAAx
well, in the FAQ of the bilstein site they mention that, for their complete kits (ie their own dampers and springs of another manufacturer) they use H&R springs.so it might be that for the H&R kits they use the bilstein dampers, with their own springs.. who knows? bAAx
one more bit of data that might be useful:ground clearance front end lupo GTi (floor to a `not-yet` annihilated plastic lip style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> ) : 13cmthat would mean, with eibach `pro-kit` and Bilstein B8 sprint: 11cm left to take crubs, speed bumps and other real world obstacles style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> i sort of FEARED it would be 9cms or so which would be dubious, but now im almost convinced style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Lupo TDI
I'm pretty sure H&R uses Bilstein dampers in hteir Cup Kits; as KW Suspentions uses Koni dampers for them. As baax said, Koni and Bilstein are much more `Shock-oriented` and have surely some `know-how` style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I think that my springs are probably made by some other company than Koni.the infamous sensor: I'm pretty sure there' one, as in my fitting instructions for my Koni they tell you to have to check that. So I guess the GTI has also such sensor ???
bAAx
rudy, what does the Koni manual say EXACTLY about the lupo? "check If theres a sensor", or "change your sensor `so-and`-so"...?? ?? ??ce maudit affaire est de retour apparément style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Lupo TDI
Congrats axel!Don't forget, we want pictures style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />I just looked in the Koni mounting instructions: There [b:post_uid1]COULD[/b:post_uid1] be a weight sensor on the rear axle. So, we're not further than before....I didn't check under my car yet, but it's a grey piece bolt on the left side of the rear axle. So you may check, if you want style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But I hate this....why isn't every Lupo equipped with the same thing? I mean, you can have 200 kg in a 1.0 as well as in a 1.7sdi or a GTI and well, 200 kg make a difference!
bAAx
well the man from the shop that seemed indifferent has been transformed to a really nice guy, and he'll do everything by the book + check with VW if that damn sensor is there or not style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />as for pictures, dont worry style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
