oil level..

To answer the question - Yes the hatched section is what to look for.

As a general rule, keep it just above half way on that section, as Andi said, do it when the engien is warm, and with the car on a perfectly flat surface, and dont overfill the oil or you may end up with something like this...

What I should have said is.

Make sure its on a level service.

Start the engine, and let it run a minute.

Switch off the engine check and top up oil.

Warm up engine to operating temp and ensure its not over the second line.
