Snoopy
If it's the EPC light by far the likeliest fault is the brake switch. And it's lovely and easy to diagnose - press the brake pedal and get a mate to tell you if the brake lights are coming on.Other possibilities include clutch switch and some other more unlikely stuff, but you'd really need to know the fault code to diagnose them. Brake switch is the common failure point.
Altern8
would it increase the revs too
tshirt2k
I had it on before and i lost power at the same time. Think it was a iffy connection on the throttle body. Fingers crossed it aint happened since.
Snoopy
would it increase the revs too<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Increase how? If it's tending to rise more than usual when you change gear, sounds like the clutch pedal switch.
kmagicl
I've checked, it's not the break switch problem, and I'll check the clutch switch later.
kmagicl
EPC, electronic power control, besides break and clutch switch, can any other reasons cause it light?like the dirty of valve?
Snoopy
Electronic pedal control.Could be a dodgy accelerator pedal position sensor, or possibly something related to the throttle body.Bear in mind it probably won't go out straight away even if you fix the problem. Snoopy
You have frog lights? No, only things to do with the electronic pedal system lights up the EPC light.

The subtle modder
yes but they may have turned something off which could do more harm than good if the problem needs fixing

nfbr
get some electrical contact cleaner for the connection to the throttle body, give it a good squirt (what a word) then get some silicone spray grease and put some on the connection, then plug it back into the throttle body.Should hopefully cure it. Cooky
Time for another hijack!EPC has been on and off since the day i bought the car but the brake lights always work. about a month ago i drove to work in heavy rain, the car decided 20 mins form work to drop power. turned her on then off then she worked. took ehr to a VW specialist and the couldnt find anything wrong? 50 quid down. shes been driving fine for a month now but my car now for some reason, has decided to limit me to 2000rpm again. been like this for days. initially i thought it must be because of the wet weather, but now the weather is fine and car is still griefing me. even troubling to start up. the EPC light drops on and off quickly and the revs change in my car. i took my air filter off looked into the throttle body and the butterfly valve is just staying shut even when i rev? im fed up now! been three days! yesterday after sitting revving the epc light went off and it revved. i drove it for about 5 mins then the power loss again. im going to buy som electra clean. see if the ****er will work for me anyone else suffered this bad form the issue?
