how can things go so wrong?

im gonna let them say what they have to say: ive been promised a call by the end of tomorrow outlining their position and what they can offer.

i will then go back to vw c/s and see what they have to offer.

contarary to popular belief their are still a few gti's unregistered, and unsold, so all hope is not lost.

if they wont offer me what i want, then i'll take my money and go elsewhere.

trading standards are aware of whats going on, but not surprised.

im gonna cause a stink no matter what happens, but id like to see what they have to offer me before i throw all my toys out of the pram.

right..so there are no new lupos of any sort with vw....

a dealer in this group has a brand new (38 miles) car unregistered in its showroom.

so im gonna push for that.

they have it up at £13600 but with their 25% staff discount that comes down to £9520 so theyd still be making an extra grand off me that they wouldnt get if one of their own bought it.

the sales people at the little chalfont branch of citygate are also ****ers, so id advise that everyone steers clear of them too.

looking like i might be carless by the begining of next week unless some one can make me happy.

I'd push for that car then mate, is it the spec you want?

Good luck though, I'd be very pleasantly surprised if they give in though, you paid what for your car, sub or around 10k, as you said, thats almost a 14k car, thats a lot of money for them to invest in goodwill. I wish you luck, but don't be surprised if they try and cut you a deal where you pay a little extra.

Edited to say, don't really understand what you meant about the staff discount, or how that has a bearing on what you pay.

one of their smug salesmen was saying hes gonna buy it cos he can get it for under £10k....so in theory they could give me that one, take mine back and stick it on the forcourt and still be no more out of pocket than if he'd bought it.

ok, so we have a finalish offer...here goes.

they will replace the front drivers side wing, bumper, splitter, and rear bumper and respray all of these to match the car.

they will not be fitted until i am satisfied with the paint job....i will also get to inspect the car with these parts off to see if theres any deeper damage.

they will refurb all 4 alloys to a standard that i am happy with.

they will supply the locking wheel nuts, screw driver, spanner, manuals and a full set of keys - as all these are currently awol.

they will give me 3 years free servicing, and extend the warranty to 6 years.

hows that sound?

Have they offered it in writing? It sounds good, but I'd check all this with VW CS, and get them to have a record of it too, it will cover you should things go bad.

Whats the time frame for the repairs, when are they saying this will be done by? There are some nice sweetners in there, but frankly the locking nuts and tool kits should be supplied with the car anyway, I don't think thats much of a goodwill gesture.

My worry is that you'll agree to the work, it will be drawn out, and it'll put you out of the refund period, to me, the risk isn't worth it, and there are other cars out there. That said, if the work is carried out properly, and keeps the VW warranty, then I don't think its anything to worry about.

Have you talked about a deal on the brand spanker they have in the other showroom? I doubt you'll get a like for like swap, but if they do you a good deal on that it might be worth the extra cash.

they wont do a deal, and theyve ha da word with the smug little ***** that told me what the staff discount is.

its either they do this or i go on the hunt for one elsewhere..and there is currently a serious shortage.

i will be gettign everything in writing, but the refurb, warranty and servicing comes to nearly £2000 worth of sweetners.....

Well, aslong as it is all in writing, and fingers crossed they do the work, then it could be ok as I said. The servicing deal is pretty good, although be wary of the extended warranty, might not be all its cracked up to be.

When did you take delivery of the car, when are the 30 days up?

Hmmmm, it does sound like a good deal mate, but you've also got to wonder what else is going to go wrong and what else is hidden.

My instinct is to get your money back. But if you can definitely get it back when they've done the repairs if you aren't happy with the job then I suppose you can wait until they've done that as you have nothing to lose. But IMHO the car would have to be immaculate.

Also, another point to bear in mind is do you want to have to deal with these dicks for the next X number of years?

Two good points, and the second one is worth considering as those free services and warranty are tied to them, not something I'd want given their brief track record.

Just make sure the works good I suppose is all the advice I have left.

i believe it would only be the extended warranty that would be tied to them, as its a more dealer related warranty, and that is why its not as good as the manufacturers warranty!!

Ah I see, would the free services be some sort of service vouchers then?

As others have said its not worth the risk you may think its easy to say that but we all think there gonna screw you over some how remember theyve done it once why not again?

And considering youve payed £10k for this car do you really want to admit to people who look at it and notice something 'yes my brand new car has a new front end on already' and also i know from experience a part repaired car WIL NOT last as long as an original car

Just spoke to VW about some paintwork on my car and baisically they said that the paintowrk is covered by a 3 year warranty so if you get it repaired by a vw aproved ARC within the 3 years and the paint flakes off then your still covered.

The anti rust warrenty states that if the panel itself has any rust ( a hole apears in it) then your covered for up to 10(i think ) years , however if you only have rust on the surface (Paintwork) then its not covered.

So in short if they repair all your panels and in 4 years rust apear on the surface then your stuffed.

To my understanding.

right....

a local audi dealership who specialises in aluminium bodied cars will now be doing the repairs....ive seen thier work and its amazing.

they will be chucking in lots of freebies, up to the value of £3000, and giving me £500 back for my trouble.

i quite honestly dont think im going to get a beter deal so im sticking with this.

Again forgive me if I am repeating other people...Your car is a metallic isnt it? If they are puting a new wing on it they will need to blend the colour into the door...you say they are painting all the parts off the car and not fitting them untill you are happy? This would worry me...STAY CLEAR!

Also for your information there is no differance in prepping and painting Aluminium from Steel, its only the repair techniques (sp?) that are different so dont let them make out that the work carried out on your car is going to be better than at places that dont deal with Alloy.

I diont agree.

So long as your happy with the end result whats the problem?

At the end of the day, this is the colour and spec you wanted.

Theres no chance you will find another.

Its not rocket science to spray and replace bolt on bodypanels.

Hope it works out for you Chris.

While I do think thats its probably going to be fine if he goes for the repair option I'd still be wary. We've seen a few times how they have buggered up resprays, look at the hassle Loopy Lupo had with his car and the repair work done, and that was silver, they never fixed it properly. Its true, its not rocket science, but they still frack it up often enough.
