Understand it's part # 6N0959453P (or think aftermarket Nissens 85551 ??) Unsurprisingly looks like will have to get an aftermarket part, so Nissens 85551 appears best option as has compatibility with that part number, despite being slight smaller in dimension. Rich Posted August 8 Report Share Posted August 8 Lupo GTi fan is specific to lupo gti, instead of poking out it is flatter and the wires poke down. BLADE Posted August 12 Author Report Share Posted August 12 OK, the Nissens 85551 doesn't fit (despite apparently being a compatible part) - as Rich says it needs to be lower profile. Long shot, does anyone have a spare GTI radiator fan they want to sell? Other thought was could a new motor be transplanted into the old fan assembly, dunno if they are uniform sizes, guessing not? Tripod Posted August 15 Report Share Posted August 15 (edited) I would imagine the fan motor is similar on other VWs. The plastic casing around the fan can be removed via 3 bolts fixed to the motor but no idea if the fan blades would pull off the front. It's a shame as it would appear that a low mileage, former VW press car will probably now have to be be scrapped for the sake of this. Madness. mk2 Posted August 16 Report Share Posted August 16 Everything is fixable. Pull the thing to pieces, figure out what needs to be replaced/made/modified and do it. Even glass reinforced plastic parts can be remanufactured with some care. It's one of the reasons my favourite tool is my die grinder. The cooling fan is nothing more than an assembly of parts. A motor in a housing, with a fan, a motor mount and some electrical connections. Brushes are replaceable. Commutators are replacable. Bearings are replacable. Even windings can be rewound. Tripod Posted August 17 Report Share Posted August 17 I would try NRF47409 radiator fan. It appears to only fit a limited number of lupo models and the polo 6N2. I'm always suspicious of parts that claim to fit the GTI and a 1.0l. You can contact them here techsupport@nrf.eu and ask how deep the fan is from face of the plastic fan hub to the back of the motor. It should be approx 70mm. BLADE Posted August 20 Author Report Share Posted August 20 Thanks for the responses and suggestions. Did try the repair route, but it's beyond me and I couldn't find anyone able to do it. The fact the car was in bits in the garage meant needed a quicker solution too. The NRF47409 has the same dimensions as the Nissens 85551 (74mm depth) which was the problem. After 2 weeks... am happy to report this is now sorted and there isn't 1 less GTI on the road. My usually dependable garage finally managed to install the Nissens fan (just needed some spacers b/w shroud and assembly, bloody obvious if you ask me) Car is, apparently, fine now, except maybe the aftermarket fan is perhaps a little louder than stock, mainly because it has a higher power output I suppose. Anyway if anyone else's GTI fan breaks in these hot temperatures, as mine seemingly did, we still have a solution. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
