eBrooker
I feel a bit emotional posting this 😢 I just got a new MOT on my 2002 Lupo (only cost me £75, last year it just needed a tyre) however there were quite a few advisories, so I think it's time to sell or sell things like the Pirelli P Slots or JOM coilovers etc. Here are the advisories: Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Headlamp has a product on the lens but not seriously reducing light output Both (4.1.4 (b)) Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened Heavy corrosion and all front suspension components. (5.3.3 (b) (i)) Rear beam axle heavy corrosion and all rear suspension components. Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened Both (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge on limit (5.2.3 (e)) Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) Anti-roll bar pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement Both ns & os front (5.3.4 (a) (i)) corrosion to underside sump pan corroded. Play in upper top mounts both. Both rear service brake only just met requirements may require service or repair. Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material all brake pipes (1.1.11 (c)) I don't actually drive much being a remote worker and living somewhere all the supermarkets deliver, so it's been parked up a lot (live in Wales, hence the corrosion from all the rain). I'm guessing it's one of the oldest Lupo's around now, and I have absolutely LOVED it. It's always been so fun to drive and has been incredibly economical over the years, I really am going to miss it. How did you all cope with losing yours? Do you have any advice? What did you get afterwards? Am I the only one who got emotionally attached to theirs 😅
mk2
All regular Lupo/Arosa stuff. Hey, at least you have no sill corrosion. That IS the game over scenario. All that stuff listed is normal part swapping. Sump pan corroded. Never seen that as an advisory before. Ever. As in, what?! They could have said gearbox surface corrosion too... And that affects the safety of the vehicle how?
Rich
If you don't need the cash, keep it. Find the bits and just get an ultimate refresh as a one. @SILVERis doing his and not documenting it. I'm on with mine and I shall be documenting it, just need a couple more bits.
mk2
I have all the bits to do at least two of my Lupos... Even paint. But no time. Yeah, do what @Rich says, keep the car and just do everything in one hit. For a one. I'd find someone local who could do it all between other jobs. You'll have to source some of the tricky bits yourself, like the rear beam. Ask vdub breakers on ebay if they have a good one. Delivered for maybe £80. Brake lines can be made if the mechanic knows what they're doing (easy work). Headlights- I did a how-to (on here somewhere). Front subframe new for £200 or maybe £100 from a breakers. The rest is all standard stuff. Worth doing lots of wax injection if you want the car to last a bit longer too- while it's in pieces.
Tripod
My advice is find an MOT tester who has a bit of sympathy for aging cars. Sounds like you found yourself a proper 'computer says no' type right there. Out of interest, what advisories did you get last year? I bet there's not much there now, that wasn't there then. Edited July 27 by Tripod Added a bit more
