julietdiane
Has anyone used this Haynes digital guide? Is it any good, and is it worth the money, considering I am not interest in the OBD codes? There are now Lupo PDF workshop manual, at half the price. Are these a better buy?
mk2
Nah, use the resources here on Club with people who've actually done the work... There's not much we haven't seen many times before. And buy a cheap diagnostic thingy. It really will help you, but make sure you can get live data, like reading the coolant temperature and battery voltage, that sort of stuff. I use an old hacked kit, with ancient VCDS software. The car is 25 YO, so it makes sense to use 20+ YO software
julietdiane
Got the message and fully agree with your suggestion on using the resources on this site - so I will not be wasting money on the Haynes. The VCDS, I never heard off until you mentioned it. I may look into it and load it onto my ancient Windows 10 laptop. Ross-Tech has download available - VCDS-Lite for all 3rd party and "Dumb" Interfaces on 2005 or older VAG cars, is that what you mean by 20+ YO software? Presumably I would need an OBD cable from Ross-Tech?
mk2
Yep. That's the one most vdub owners use. I have an ancient windows XP laptop specifically for vcds (which used to be called VAG-com)... charity shops almost give them away. And a cheap ebay USB to OBD cable. Just make sure the cable thingy can use the K-line serial interface which our Lupos use to communicate.
amgeriz
I recently found this web to download the original vw elsawin manuals. https://vwts.ru/vw_lupo_6x_6e.html
mk2
Nice find. 👍🏻 There's some good info in there, especially for 3L owners, how to reconfigure the gear shift mechanism. Lots of rebuild pics. Just been going through it the last two hours!
julietdiane
Wow those original elsawin download manuals are a minefield of information, including maintenance and fault-finding schedules.
