Speedo - swappable?

The arosa clocks I find are shocking as I can’t see the dials in daylight properly.  I’ve come across a set of early ‘white’ dial lupo clocks which I can make use although my arosa is a  tdi and not sure what the replacement was petrol/diesel So has anyone got any positive ideas if the rev counters are compatible?

I'm sure either @Rich or @Skezza has tried this before... And a gut feeling that you need the same diesel version, with the glowplug light. Or maybe @SILVER?

The white instruments do look great. Agreed. Worst case, you might be able to peel off that thin printed membrane and transfer it to yours? If you do, please do a write up. 👍🏻

Ah the glow plug light, forgot about that, I’m sure the faces and circuit boards are generic and only light up when a bulb is fitted. Also…. Are vehicle mileages stored in the ecu or dash?

So… Months later……. I finally fitted the white dial clocks today. 
With my TDI Arosa, hated the arosa clocks as they were hard to see in some light as they were in dark tunnels and   I fancied the early lupo white faced clocks. The ones i dropped in just now must have been petrol 4cyl as the rev counter is reading very low now and so is the temp gauge. There’s another thing, when headlights are on it’s showing fog lamp on permanent. 
Anyone done this conversion and sync it all to work correctly? Probably need a dash and electronics export on here…

Something about early white clocks being different and non swappable. 

Never mind petrol/diesel.

Nah, petrol and diesel are different because the ignition impulse uses wasted spark system (looks like double/half revs). Plus half the sensor inputs are different.

Many of the engine sensors go direct to the instruments, so if they're different/missing/additional, they'll light up different sections. I think the only things that are common are the power connections, otherwise you'll have interesting fireworks.

Also the early Lupos/Arosas use the SIMOS ECU, instead of Bosch. Maybe even the Magnetti Marelli ones? I don't remember without looking it up.

@Rich you've been playing too much with the high brow auto sector... Phaetons, Audis... Lots of CANbus fun there. Not sure if any Lupos had CANbus did they? Late GTIs maybe?

@Rich can- bus seems to have come in on all vehicles around 2005, mine is non can-bus and clocks definitely not either. 
 

With the other stuff i mentioned, I think the fog light warning light is mistakenly activated by the ’lights on’ indicator which arosa has. That probably just needs the pins moving in one of the multi plugs. 
The rev counter might be 25% out at a guess as the 3cyl tdi would pulse 25% less than the 4 banger does. 
 Today when I drove it the temp gauge had  a little fluctuation which might be an actual fault with the unit not the transplant as it got to temp then dropped then back up. 
In all fairness the clocks don’t work bad at all considering they shouldn’t be there. I’ll also have to adjust the mileage to sinc
