Lupo GTi breather hose sensor.

What does the sensor do in the hose between the crankcase breather and airbox? Is it just passive and monitoring air flow or something or is it active and operates a valve or similar?

I've just replaced the breather assembly on the back of the block due to a little oil mist in the airbox, it was well gunged up with cottage cheese. Immediate effects have been much smoother running at low revs with a cold engine, it was a bit stuttery before, gearchanges - on/off throttle is smoother and most noticeable, idle speed has dropped from 1200rpm cold/1000rpm warm to 1000rpm cold/~800-900rpm warm.

Need I do anything with the inline sensor or is it best left alone?

It's not a sensor, it's a breather hose heater, designed for use in extreme cold climates to prevent the crankcase fumes from freezing. Definitely not needed in the UK and usually causes more issues than it solves
