"Recent news that Volkswagen will reinvent famous nameplates on its next-generation EVs – starting with the ID.Polo and possibly ID.Tiguan next year – could see the ‘ID.1’ reach production as the ID.Lupo; the Lupo nameplate not having appeared on a VW in more than two decades."

Because electric cars are all piles of doodoo, they're trying to appeal to people by using names that are familiar to them, like Ford have with the Capri. I hate this move by any manufacturer, let alone VW.

I have seen this. Personally i am going to reserve a bit of judgement on this. Vw has not copied another manufacturer and put said nameplate on something that it does not represent. Said manufacturer maybe paying the price for this now.

I think with how the Renault 5 is doing is kind of showing how the market is going and that has been quite success (see below article) from what i have seen. A friend of mine has one. City car size at present there is not many options. So it might do ok?

Yeah, the "A segment" as they call it. But even the R5E is huge compared to the original. Like Mk3 golf or maybe even a mk4?

Fond memories of my metallic blue 5GT Turbo which I bought as a cat C and rebuilt. Such a quick, lightweight car.

Our Lupos are "AA". So small... The closest is the Fiat Topolino, but not classed as a car. Now that'd be cool if it did at least 50. and 200 mile range (for day trips to the coast or visits to relatives).

Theres a great YT channel called Garys EV repairs.

I'd happily have an EV, but they are still $$$ even used, and the smaller ones don't have any practical range for me. (Assumption is in that class they will only be used for short city trips, so range not crucial).

But I want a Lupo-sized EV that will get me from Edinburgh to Inverness, probably a pipe-dream though for now...

Yeah, been looking too, trying to figure out beyond the "regular" usage scenarios. Like seaside trips, relatives and away from home holidays. And repair issues, and ease of repair. Right now my thoughts are don't even touch with a barge pole. Not practical yet unless minted.

I've googled "xyz brand and model" "problems" for various EVs; When little things go wrong and out of warranty stuff turns up, it gets expensive. Really expensive. And time consuming because the main dealer car techs just use parts cannons to try and fix them. Techs are not good at phone repair with wheels attached. Many times they are written off. It'll be interesting how many 10+ YO EVs will exist down the line like our 25 YO Lupos and 'Rossas.
