my 1.0 L Arosa has just decided to show it's engine light with no other symptoms, so this thread is of interest - barely done 40K. Will try the carb cleaner spray on throttle body to begin with..

Ok. It is probably a AUC engine. These where fitted to lupos. Could be a number of things. But from some expereince, when plugging a code reader it will tell you missfire, but not where so this is a list of things it could be. If its on 40k and only done smaller journeys. Check the EGR valve first as that may be clogged.

Otherwise it could be any of the following

Spark Plugs

Coilpack

Injectors

Thats where i would start.

Yeah. To be sure what the cause is, you need to plug in some diagnostic thing. That'll give you some pointers where to look. You could take it on a straight motorway run for an hour at cruising speed to see if it clears. Has it been used mainly in traffic and slow speed driving?

thanks for replies, I should've said I'm retired trade I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who's had the same, thinking this engine might be prone to some characteristic faults

So I did the usual of cleaning the throttle body and checking the EGR valve. both were quite clean which wasn't a surprise considering the mileage so didn't really suspect either but after finally getting a code reader that worked instead of the Mickey Mouse cheaper ones, I cleared the fault and it hasn't returned after at least an hours worth of driving, so fingers crossed.
