Update!

Otis made it to the lovely Kent Automotive garage in Maidstone yesterday, and turns out the timing belt needed replacing (no shock really, despite its low mileage it could be the original 21 year old belt!), and should be ready to collect today. Belt and water pump are to be replaced :)

Lets hope this fixes the issue! For said issue, please look here: https://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/topic/110717-engine-light-epc-illuminated-whilst-driving/20241205_081956.thumb.jpg.603296213b22bd3e89aecfb9370f684f.jpg

An almost brand new Lupo! Result.

Right!!

Just a couple more things and then he truly will be.

Haven't washed it yet. Should probably do that to keep its paint looking sharp haha! ;)

Needs a thorough clean on the drivers seat. Since cleaning the surface off with a hard brush and fabric cleaner, there's been an unpleasant smell coming from it. So, i'm going to take one of those vaccum's that sucks up all the dirt!

There's a minor issue with selecting gears, particularly reverse. Think there's something linkage related happening..

NEEDS a service (got one booked in after Xmas) as records say it was last serviced at.. 4, yes, 00004 miles!!

MOT will be done after the service :)

Stay tuned!

-Adam.

Yeah, the reverse adjustment is a single 10mm bolt on the selector just behind the gearbox, accessible from under the car. Move the bolt upwards in the slot it sits in- try a couple of mm. If you go too far, fifth becomes difficult to select. When it's in the perfect spot, it 'feels' right. (You're adjusting the rotation position of the selector shaft- see pics on the gearbox thread)

Today, Otis got given the Lanoguard treatment by yours truly!

I wanted to treat the rear subframe in particular, as it's looking far more tatty than anything else under the car, so took a wirebrush to it to get the worst off, and applied a couple of coats of the stuff along said rear subframe.

Upon laying underneath the car, I notice the centre of the subframe is almost rust-free! It's just the corners.

It's looking very good and i'm very proud of myself :)20241214_081208.thumb.jpg.fb3935e7c87910320b188f9c6da4d858.jpg20241214_085655.thumb.jpg.4f290c0397ff2df9e847a48d43dae771.jpg

Never used Lanoguard. Is it any good compared to other wax and oil based products?

Just apply one coat (or two to be safe) once a year and it simply prevents the rust from worsening :)

I've attached what this stuff claims to do, so believe as you wish my friend :)

Hey everyone!

Been a hot minute. Haven't been on here much since mid December due to other priorities, but thought I'd give an update on Otis :D

I've decided to keep him stock for now as my heart's not entirely into spending my life savings on it, I'm content with him as he is!

From then to now, he's had his service (first in 19 years!) and MOT (Passed with only two cracked tyres and lightly corroded power steering pipes as advisories), his first proper wash (waxed!) and now I thought I'd pay an homage to the classic VW's with some.. interesting hubcaps! What do you think? Feel free to praise me or burn me ;)

Cheers everyone! Thanks for reading.

-Adam.

Ahh and forgot to mention, we're getting the power steering pipes replaced, a new set of tyres, and getting the gear linkage sorted, plus a new gaiter whilst we're at it.

Stay tuned :)

Love the new wheels! What are they?

Someone posted a link on here for the power steering pipe fix/supplier.

These are from autovintage, known as 'baby moons'. They're just over the stock steelies :)

Ah cool! I've got the part from Powersteeringstore, and booked someone to replace them. Don't really trust myself with cars haha!

Hey everyone!

Otis has been treated to a set of new tyres, and in the same evening attended his first car meet!!

B road at The Stag, if ya know ya know.. ;)

Went with my good friend, in his mk1 Eunos. Had such a lovely night, would highly recommend for anyone in the Kent/Sussex area! :D

Stay tuned where next Thursday, Otis shall be getting new power steering pipes and gearbox adjustments :)

Hey all!

As promised, update time.

Power steering pipes didn't even need doing, and the shaft selector has been correctly adjusted. My gears feel so much nicer :)

So, a cheap day indeed! Puts a good smile on my face always :D

Hope everyone's having a great week!

Hey everyone!

Quick update for you all.

The good news, Otis has hit 18,000 miles (atleast that's good news in my eyes, he's out on the road!!) and he has had a heck of a wash, squeaky clean I say! :D

Otis has had a new battery after realising he's been running slightly flat all this time.. reader was getting 11.8v on Ignition and about 13.6v on Startup! New battery is showing correct figures :)

(On that note, perhaps I should consider a cover for the Fuse Box?)

We initially thought this'd be the cause of these infamous warning lights (as shown below) but they shone like the sun even after the new battery had been installed.

It's when we plugged in the scanner to find it is code P0571 (Brake Switch), so 'tis a cheap fix. I've read that they're a tad fiddly on VW's of this era but will cross that bridge when we get to it!

Update on brake switch install to follow soon!

Cheers :)
