Newton_Lord
Hello guys having a bit of a problem with my lupo, i was driving home the other night after a slightly spirited 14 mile journey(I wasn’t beating on the car but wasn’t driving at a snails pace either) and the car started to feel very lumpy, i dropped down a gear and it didn’t get any better. Next thing i know the car is getting worse and the engine light is on and flashing. I pulled over took off all the HT leads one after the other and put them back on. The problem was solved… about a mile later it started the same thing again and i stopped waited for my dad to bring me some new leads and fitted them. This took about an hour total once i was done i started the car and drove it home without any issues. Today the same thing happened i drove about the same distance stopped for a bit had some food and a minute after heading home it started to do it again. Knowing it’s not the leads i just drove home and at times the car would be fine but mostly lumpy misfire. Get home and the car stinks of fuel and i’m not sure what it is. The plugs are fairly new but my plan for tomorrow is getting some new ones from GSF and a new coil-pack. Is there anything that’s going to cause this problem that i haven’t thought of ? I also plan on testing compression tomorrow morning and taking a look at the plugs. What sort of pressure am i wanting to see from the cylinders on a 1L lupo ? Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
ObjectiveAway
Check you cranckcase and camshaft ventilation system, very common fault for misfires for these engines. Next step is correct spark plug gaps and better spark plug cables, what brand are your spark plug cables?

I thought it could also be the temperature sensor and when it gets hot enough it’s trying to run on first start up high idol and over fuels itself? Newton_Lord
Also did a compression test 1/150-160psi 2/210psi 3/210psi 4/210psi Not really sure what to make of it
mk2
Are the plugs all the same colour? I wouldn't worry too much. Yet. They should be within 2% of each other. Try the temp sensor.
Newton_Lord
The 2nd cylinder was slightly white compared to the others, my plan is to change the plugs, temp sensor and coil pack and see what happens. The other plugs are very sooty but again i’m not so worried about that knowing i did drive for about 10 miles with it misfiring and jumping about to get it home. Should have the parts at 4o'clock and will see what happens. Thinking it must be something electrical as moving it to work on this morning it ran fine.
